MOSCOW. July 26 (Interfax) - Russia will airlift additional water bombers to Greece to battle fires in that country, President Vladimir Putin said, according to the Kremlin's press service.
Greek Prime Minister Konstandinos Karamanlis asked Russia for additional assistance in fighting forest fires in telephone talks with Putin on Thursday, the press service said.
Fires -— in Greece-—the same sad story.
One thing to remember: Few forest fires in Greece are due to natural causes.
In fact, lightning-caused fires account for less than 3 percent of the total number of fires.
The rest of the fires are accidental, due to negligence or deliberately started.
Yes, I understand.
What a shame.
Yes Russia is helping a lot with this. I will be going in August and will see first hand I am sure some of the awful results.
BTW—this is nothing new: I remember the 70s and 80s and there were lots of fires then as well... before that? Well fires have always been around and so have the pyromaniacs and assorted sickos among them.
