LANCASTER, Ohio -- A camp counselor accused of molesting three boys at a church camp in central Ohio said he's innocent.
In an interview Wednesday with WBNS TV in Columbus, 43-year-old Timothy Stephen Keil said he did not harm any children at the Scioto Youth Camp. The camp is about 50 miles southeast of Columbus.
Keil, a married father of six, was arraigned Wednesday on felony charges of gross sexual imposition. A Perry County judge ordered him held on a $200,000 bond.
Authorities said Keil was arrested on Friday after three boys, ages 8 to 10, claimed Keil touched them in an inappropriate manner earlier this month.
Authorities said Keil could face additional charges before his case is presented to the grand jury on July 31.
Unfortunately, a lot of kids are wise to the fact that such an accusation can destroy an adult. Make me obey the camp rules, will you? I’ll fix you!
Doesn’t mean that the charges are untrue, but once leveled they’ll never go away, guilty or not.
Gut feeling - The guy didn't do it. 8-10 year olds could be getting even for something and not realizing exactly what they're doing to this man and his family.
Who the heck names these charges? What does that even mean?
My wife could charge me with that any time she "has a headache".
I had the same gut feeling, wonder if our guts can pick up on terrorist attacks like Chertoff’s?
That very thing happened to a teacher in Montgomery County Maryland. He was falsely accused by some students who were mad at him about something. He was eventually cleared of the charges, but his reputation is permanately damaged.
Maybe the only solution is that adults can’t ever be alone with children for any reason. That way, there would always be someone else to testify as to what did or didn’t happen.
Exactly!! Any adult working with minors these days needs to make sure he/she, is never in a situation where there are no witnesses to his/her behavior.
Secular teacher/counselor accused of sexual misconduct with students=Hang him by the balls
Church teacher/counselor=Kids made it up.
Nice double standard
I can remember a time when the country was safe for kids and adults could interact with children without fear. Of course, back then there was a mom and dad in almost every home, and the mother raised her own children. Schools taught academics rather than destructive liberalism.
That was only a few decades ago, but the liberalism and the resulting chaos has multiplied a hundred fold since then.
Church teacher/counselor=Kids made it up.
The second one has a moral code. The other has an anything that feels good code.
I didn't notice the "church" part when I first read it, but I agree with JimRed. My instinct just said he didn't do it.
Hey, some of us teachers have a moral code.
susie
Nice broad brush you’ve got there.
My wife could charge me with that any time she “has a headache”.
________
Why? Do you force yourself on her after she says ‘not tonight, honey’?
The second one [church counselor] has a moral code. The other [secular counselor] has an anything that feels good code.
___________
Un frikkin’ believable. Words fail me.
That’s a might big brush you’re painting with, CAP. Haven’t we seen enough examples, in all denominations (don’t want to single out the RCC), of predators hiding behind their church robes?
Your comment reeks of smarmy arrogance. My actual thoughts on your comment would likely lead to a moderator enforced time-out. So, all I can say is “Boo. Hiss.”

My guy feeling is the church should be punished for letting this guy anywhere close to kids. Sounds like they didn’t do a background check at all or else ignored big red flags.

>>Court records depict him as a severely troubled man with previous convictions, emergency hospitalizations and continuing mental-health treatment.
Keil told the judge he wished to be let out of jail so he could attend his weekly counseling at Mid-Ohio Psychological Services in Lancaster.
“I have been getting ongoing counseling not for these specific issues, but I have been in ongoing counseling and continue to be,” he said.
He has threatened to kill himself and others. One time he said he wanted to blow up an elementary school so others could suffer as he does, and another time he said he would either overdose or chop off his head with a hatchet, Lancaster police records show.
Keil told the judge that Fairfield County Children Services had developed a “safety plan” to remove his wife and children from their home if he were let out and allowed to return home while the charges are pending.
Director Rich Bowlen confirmed the existence of the plan but would not comment on any previous involvement by his agency with the family, citing confidentiality laws.<<
This isn’t encouraging either
>>Keil also was an adjunct instructor at Ohio Christian University in Circleville during the spring semester, school president Mark Smith said.<<

Nor is this encouraging
>>Keil had been a Sunday school volunteer at the church within the past 18 months and also worked at Round Lake’s camp in June. Fairfield Christian Church officials will be sending a letter to parents informing them of the charges against Keil and seeking information on other possible incidents, Drake said.
Keil is on the Lancaster-Fairfield Community Action Agency’s board of directors as a representative of the Head Start policy council. He was elected president of the council this past school year, but was not a classroom volunteer.<<

>>Perry County officials expect to charge Keil today with five counts of gross sexual imposition. He is accused of inappropriately touching boys at camps where he volunteered.
Scioto Youth Camp counselors found Keil in a cabin with a boy. When the counselors walked in, Keil was rubbing up against the boy, investigators said.
Deputies said they took him into custody Friday — less than 48 hours before he was leaving to volunteer at another camp.
Authorities said Keil was convicted in 1990 of indecent assault and corruption of a minor in Pittsburgh. He served four years on probation. Details of those charges remained unavailable.<<
Since this article a 6th, 7th and 8th boy have come forward and reported being groped etc.
Its really looking like negligence on the church’s part.
And even the college he taught at is starting to back peddle
Yesterday: Keil was an adjunct instructor at Ohio Christian University in Circleville during the spring semester, said President Mark A. Smith, who refused to elaborate on what he taught or for how long he had been associated with the university.
Today: Keil was never employed as a full- or part-time staff member, Smith said, adding, This gentleman is not associated with our school.
all in all it looks like a genuine, serial child molester using the church as cover. With plenty of warning so they could have avoided it. Very, very, sad.
I think that you put paid to all of the “gut feelings” around here. LOL.
