The EU Constitution is Back and More Dangerous than Ever!
Evening Standard ^ | 7/25/07

Do you remember the European Constitution? Yes, the one rejected by the French and Dutch? That same European Constitution on which the Labour Government promised the British people a referendum before the last General Election?

Well, it's back with a vengeance. Like some old Hammer horror movie, the constitution has returned from the dead, now repackaged as a 'treaty.'

The so-called 'new' EU Treaty has all the same ingredients as the old constitution. In fact, it was revealed yesterday that it is 96 per cent identical to the old constitution.

And so the response to this newly repackaged threat to British freedom and independence must be exactly the same: a referendum to give the people the final word.

As usual, our politicians in Westminster have woken up late to the full significance of the 16-page mandate that Tony Blair signed with a flourish at his swansong EU summit last month.

In contrast, the speed with which the Eurocrats have moved to head off any British objection to their power-grab has astonished political observers more accustomed to the leisurely habits of Brussels.

Over the years the EU, aided and abetted by our own Foreign Office, has given the impression that the process of what it terms 'pooling' sovereignty is inevitable. But the EU's notion of 'pooling' is suspiciously similar to what will actually renounce all individual sovereignty.

Bureaucrats, like the poor, are always with us.

What bothers me is the method the European elites are using to get their constitution into being. When the people were given a vote, they said "NO" loud and clear, so now the constitution has become a "treaty."

I worry that our own will use some back door method to create the NAU without us having any say. If they do, they leave us no choice other than an armed rebellion.

“pooled” sovereignty is no sovereignty at all.

The same game as the U.S. elites were playing with amnesty for illegal aliens, perhaps?

The British people appear to know that, so will they even have a chance to say “no?”

"The same game as the U.S. elites were playing with amnesty for illegal aliens, perhaps?"

Maybe not identical, but definitely similar. Is somebody watching every single word of every single Bill Congress votes on to see if they've slipped something in it? If not, we're screwed.

England cannot become a full member of the EU until it removes the idea of having a King or Queen. As here in the States, the NAU cannot happen with our Constitution in place. The Constitution will have to be re-written to include Mexico and Canada. Do not let anyone change our Constitution for any reason. Once they open it up for change, everything can change. Our Constitution is fine the way it is. It has served us well for over 200 years and belongs to us, not Congress.

Th structure of the E.U. is diametrically opposite to what the U.S.A. orginally was!

The EU has a longstanding tradition of overreaching, this is no different. Gordon Brown will not, in the end, be able to push this through without a referendum. The referendum will not pass, and the EU will have yet another crisis.

When the people were given a vote, they said "NO" loud and clear, so now the constitution has become a "treaty."

Compare this to how our government has stopped making treaties (which require 2/3 of the Senate) and is now making agreements (which only require 1/2 of the Congress).

I have a heart attack anytime anybody sets in motion the mechanism to amend the Constitution. Just the talk of a Con-Con gives me multiple strokes. Or, at least that's how it feels, but it's only a serious panic attack.

Any idea how many unpopular UN treaties the Senate has approved over the years by voice vote with a handful of Senators on the floor and the rest already at home or on their way, having left early to celebrate some Holiday? Plenty! There isn't even any record of who to hold accountable. Don't count on the citizens having any vote on the NAU, or even advance notice of what those who supposedly represent us are up to.
