but once the general public, not us, but those guys who vote on the prevailing currents and trends, see little kids and their mommies being herded on buses, it will backfire so bad I fear we would lose even more ground.

This sentence of yours has been going through my mind today. It's sadly true that the non-thinking voters of today react to images and sentimentality over logic and facts. But - IMO - if we have to behave in a politically correct manner all the time in order to get voters to go in our direction, we're screwed. If people can't remember the issues and the data, but instead react like 3rd or 4th graders not thinking beyond the last image they saw - we're in dire straits no matter what.

And I'm afraid with education being dumbed down for the last several decades and commercialism and greed making the masses unable to think beyond immediate gratification, we're there already.

That in large part is why I think we will have to “work in” these folks. The prevailing winds are only going to give us border security. We’ll deport the violent offenders but the “soft” crime of illegal immigration will get a pass. The ones here working will stay and the economy will deal and that will be that. Like I said anything past that makes us look “mean” and “hateful” right now and that will just prolong the agony.

However, I tend to be somewhat optimistic. It will take too long to turn all that around to deal with this issue, but in time I think the people will get weary then get smart. But we will have to work that way slowly until they get there.

At least 12 Million of them will be Mexican by decent.
