You're Fred Thompson. As a former U.S. senator you had a pleasant and lucrative career acting in a tv show. Then an opening unexpectedly appeared in the contest for the GOP nomination, because there were no candidates acceptable to conservatives. The most important issue to conservatives was immigration. You made a few general statements indicating a readiness to enforce our country's immigration laws and guard its borders. These comments immediately translated into significant popular support and turned you into a viable prospect for the Republican nomination, even though you had not formally declared your candidacy. Then you appointed as your campaign manager former U.S. senator Spencer Abraham from Michigan. Abraham is most famous as an arrogant open-borders fanatic in his work as chairman of the Senate immigration sub-committee in the late 1990s. He was so bad on immigration that in 2000 Michigan conservatives and Republicans voted for Spencer's challenger, pro-abortion liberal Democrat Debbie Stabenow, in order to drive Spencer from the Senate. Abraham lost his Senate seat because of his commitment to open borders, pure and simple.
Are you not aware that it was your statements on immigration that, mild as they were, gave you a shot at the presidency? ...

The main failure of the 86 act was not the act but the failure of follow through on the boarder. These are two related but separate issues. Lock down the boarder. Do it now. I am all for it and then some. That in now way answer the question of what to do with those here in a logistically plausible way.
There is every possibility that a number of illegals will self deport, but don’t bet on it to any great degree. Our economy is in good shape and there are jobs out there in a lot of places. maybe separating out the one who draw on the system vs. those that find work and have that ethic will trim the numbers enough and be at a pace where we can send some back.
All I know is that there is no way in hell to give back 12 million people. Period. Cannot be done in the current political and technical environment.
Hystrionics, and absurdity by those who never supported FDT anyways.
I gave Guiliani more consideration than these faux objectors.
So far I see no reason to support anyone other than FDT.
and no Hunter does not merit consideration. If anything the Hunter supporters should be pushing for him to be VP.
I suspect viral advertising again.
Remember when we had all those Guiliani trolls?
I suspect it is the same crowd trying to rehabilitate Guiliani’s dying campaign.
That was in the 50s, and it is not just the President who makes this call, its the people. The will is just not there, and will disappear once the people see little kids being rounded up. It just won't happen, even if Tanc or Hunter were President.
Believe me I have looked at every possible angle, focusing on cost/benefit as well as the political climate.
And letting them stay is not a solution. Past amnesty proves that to be the case; it only increased the inflow.
The laws, as currently written, must be enforced.
Illegals must be deported when arrested.
Law enforcement, at all levels, must be responsive and held accountable for enforcing federal laws.
Employers must be responsive and held accountable for obeying federal laws.
Benefits paid to illegals must cease.
The fence must be built.
New laws must be written making it illegal to provide free education to illegals, free medical services to illegals, free housing to illegals, free welfare services to illegals.
There is no other solution. None.
As a solution you are right, it would work. Lock down and ship out.
Now can it be done given all the factors I have stated, logistical, social and political?
If not then what?
There is no other solution but to do what Tancredo has been putting forth for several years now.
Amnesty has not worked before; it will not work in the future. That sends a message that ever more can raid the border.
The only solution is to elect people who are willing to enforce the laws, get tough on illegals and employers who hire them, boot out those who refuse to comply with the people’s wishes....at every level, local, state, and federal.
No good will come about if the people concede to the politicians’ handwringing that “nothing can be done.” We must make it very clear that, yes, there are things which can be done....starting now. No compromise. They got the message once. If the people continue to stay on them about this, they’ll get the message again.
I still think Hunter is the best candidate, and intend to support him or Thompson. But if the campaign unfolds and Thompson appears to be a Bush II clone - a watered down Democrat, its third aprty time.I agree with that. Only, I am willing to wait to see what Thompson says before I make a decision... unlike some of these over reactionary Freepers.
Well I think you are over estimatiing the will of the American people and the physical and logistical abilities of our government, but we will see.
If the people don’t wake up, it doesn’t matter.
We are being, and will continue to be, overrun by illegals.
And this country, as we grew up to know it, will no longer exist.
Right now I’m in a holding pattern. I’m willing to wait. I did contribute to the guy’s campaign as I did to Hunter’s - but not one nickle to the RNC.
I also plan to send Sessions a check.
If Fred doesn’t come out strongly in opposition to amensty and supportive of a border wall, he’s not the right guy.
I watched as the Rudy-bots were shown the door here at FReepers, does this mean that those of us that are suspicious of Fred will suffer the same fate?
Get back to me when we get control of the press. And as far as getting them to leave, have you been to Mexico lately? I would hate to have to do what it takes here to make there look appealing again.
Emotional, no, frustrated yes, the reality of the political and social situation defies quick solutions. Like I said, currently there seems to be a general trend against anything like amnesty, but once the general public, not us, but those guys who vote on the prevailing currents and trends, see little kids and their mommies being herded on buses, it will backfire so bad I fear we would lose even more ground.
I want to ship them back myself but even before that I would have not let them in to begin with. But I have looked over this situation beyond the slogans and wishes and just don't see it happening. So I want to minimize the cost and criminal impact and play the hand dealt to our advantage.
BTW, on grammar and other mistakes, most of my post are from my Treo, a little hard to reach grammar nirvana on a 2 inch screen. However thank you for the grade.
No, I have very happily not been to Mexico in a long, long time. I know it is a cesspool, as are most of the other 3rd world countries where our invaders are from. I imagine they’ll only willingly go back to those places only if they have no other options. Which is what we need to do if we are to survive as a country.
And although I see (or think I do) that you are trying to find a practical solution to a problem that has been allowed to fester for too long, I still can perceive any solution that allows them to stay as amnesty. I would never be for that, but then again, I’m one of the few that has seen this problem grow and grow over the past 30+ years while everyone seems to have ignored it. Present company excluded, of course. The areas I’ve been in (S Cal and Texas) are ruined. Those states have more in common with Mexico than the U.S. any more. Decades of invasion and out of control breeding at taxpayers’ expense, corporate and liberal education policy has served to assist them to NOT assimilate one bit, and the hatred they have for all things American (while taking and taking our money in all forms of services) have made going back to the ‘norm’ impossible. I’d like to save the rest of the country from following this fate.
If I lived elsewhere (which I plan to do ASAP along with most nonhispanic Californians I know), I would probably think your plan was fine. From what I’ve experienced though, IMHO we need to either act quickly and forcefully or say goodbye to life as we knew it - at least tell it goodbye for our children, who will inherit a mess that can’t be fixed.
Sorry for the insults on your English. If I were writing on a 2 inch screen, you wouldn’t be able to understand one thing I was trying to say! Is the input one of those tiny keyboards you use with a stylus? That would be really annoying/frustrating.
btt
However, I tend to be somewhat optimistic. It will take too long to turn all that around to deal with this issue, but in time I think the people will get weary then get smart. But we will have to work that way slowly until they get there.
At least 12 Million of them will be Mexican by decent.
