Hi Coleus!

What did MTV do this time?

I doubt I’ll be attending this, but I’m passing it on anyway. Give ‘em heck! ;-)

Note: on Augjst 9th from 7 until 9 at night: What’s so Bad about Abortion? At the NY Ethical Culture Society, 2 West 64th Street in NYC - a totally PRO ABORTION PANEL which includes Vicki Saporta from NARAL/ National Abortion Federation. Please be there - we don’t want them to think that we are lla a bunch of pro aborts.

The New York Ethical Culture Society should change its name to “Unethical and Uncultured Society”. I have never seen such an unbalanced panel in my life! The website is NYsalon.org and “Catholics for a Free Choice” is a sponsor.

I have already protested this "all on one wide" panel via e-mail.

In a way, I can understand their wanting all pro-aborts this time, so that the larger issue can be put aside for the moment, but I think they should have at least had some ballast in the form of neutral participants, since they are going to discuss issues that do touch on the larger issue and which side is correct.

For instance, they are going to discuss the psychological damage that is done to women who have abortions, without bothering to have an objective psychologist or other expert there to correct any false statements that might be made. That is criminal, and should be counteracted by leafletting outside the place. If you really care about women, you don't want these one-siders glossing over the harm that is caused to women by abortion, who then suffer because of their ignorance.

They are going to debate the issue of whether saying women are harmed by abortion feeds into the misognynist myth that women are weak and can't take care of themselves. Whether or not that is true, isn't the real issue whether there is harm or not? You can be very strong and self-sufficient and still be harmed by losing your child at your own hands.

Not to get into the "who cares about women more" argument, but let's at least explore the issue without an admittedly all-pro-abort panel leading a kind of circle jerk.

From this distance I cannot possibly be present for the occasion but whole-heartedly support your efforts. Thanks so much for making the effort to speak up in the face of a horrible injustice on the part of those who cry “peace” all the day long, when there is no peace.

Vicki Saporta is truly despicable. She has gone from NARL to the National Abortion Federation. Very life affirming, Vicki!
