Two positions dominate and polarize the American body politic today. Some say the war is lost, so leave Iraq. Others say the war can be won, so keep the troops in place. I split the difference and offer a third route. The occupation is lost, but the war can be won. Keep American troops in Iraq but remove them from the cities.

Important column from Daniel Pipes. This could become fallback Plan B for Iraq War.
Surprised to hear this from Pipes, especially in view of recent developments. He’s a wonderful political observer, but IMHO a terrible general.
except for a few of us, i think nobody has a clue especially the government weenies. met a fellow who gives lectures about al quida and terrorism and after the lecture he looks at the audience and said they just don’t seem to get it. sometimes i think only freepers and a few others do get it.
I think Daniel put something else into his Pipe instead of tobacco. Our forces, US and Iraqis, are reclaiming the cities from Al Aqaeda and even the Sunni and Mahdi and criminal gangs.
The people are tired of the slaughter and they are seeing improvements (belatedly) coming with the Coalition forces.
On this one, Pipes is wrong.
