Too bad as a parent you can’t get your kid into God’s Word where he/she can really learn much more about His word, instead of from a fictional book using witchcraft to get a message across.

Too bad C.S. Lewis, Tolkien and Dickesns (Tale of Two cities, anyone?) didn't just have kids read the Bible.

Oh, and feel fre to point me to where anyone has said kids should read HP instead of the Bible.

Why do you assume we don't do both?

Too bad as a parent you can’t get your kid into God’s Word...

Some of us have actually done both.

My oldest was "enchanted" by the first book in 5th grade. He's having a hard time getting to read this one because he just got back from his fourth missions trip, is working Vacation Bible School this week, has Bible study tonight...

If the child gets the messages that are in the Potter books, then I have no problem. They don't teach witchcraft. The teach friendship, loyalty, courage, thinking for yourself, perseverance, sacrifice and that good must triumph over evil. Your stuck on magic, rather than the message. The books are very clear that you must have a "magical" family tree to be a witch or wizard. But in the end, it is all pretend. I played "Jeannie" and "Samantha" as a kid, went to church, and turned out pretty well according to folks I know.
