Insecure Borders: Let’s Give Blame Where Blame Is Due
Family Security Matters ^ | July 23, 2007 | Peter Gadiel

Posted on 07/23/2007 6:20:11 PM PDT by captjanaway

For five years, members of 9/11 Families for a Secure America have lobbied in Washington and in many state capitols for immigration law enforcement and secure borders. The opponents of our goals are many throughout Congress and elsewhere, but during this period the most powerful of them has been that individual with the sole authority to require the federal government to enforce these laws and who, by his refusal to do so, has made that government a co-conspirator in undermining the security of this Nation. That person is of course, George Bush.

As chief of the Executive Branch he has under the Constitution not only the sole power but the duty to enforce the laws of our country, a duty he refuses to honor. He thumbs his nose at the obligations imposed on him by the Constitution, which, in the name of the God he claims to worship, he has sworn to uphold. Since the people of the United States have no recourse through the court system to make him enforce the law, he alone has the power to decide that illegal aliens will be permitted to prey on Americans, and he has made that decision.

You will not find me defending President Bush on this issue, but it must be noted that blame must be shared will Presidents Clinton, GHW Bush and Reagan.

It doesn’t excuse President Bush’s failures, of course.

Pure nonsense. More hysteric drivel from the rabid Know Nothings. Under President Bush the Border Patrol has been dragged from operating with 1960s technology to the modern age. Decades of neglect cannot be undone in second just because a bunch hysterics have their panties in a wad.

Note to Know Nothings. Maybe if you were such hysteric trailer trash, you might grasp the concept that you don’t have the votes to fortify the border.

Your dream bill House 7474 went to the Congress last year. The Democrats filibustered it.

So get a grip, like the Hysteric Left, you simply do NOT have the votes to simply impose your political fantasies. So grow up. Because this non stop demagoguery and hysteria in place of a reasoned debate you continually scream on this issue does ONE thing. Prevent anything at all from being done on the border.

You people are your own worse enemies. The LONGER the status quo is maintained, the better off the Illegals are.

Rather then screaming bile at everyone who doesn’t buy your 100%er dogmas, you should be trying to build a political coalition to actually get SOMETHING done. Cause right now, ONLY the Illegals are winning.

The only person who is hysterically insulting people on this thread is you, Johnnie.

We do not have the votes in the Senate to require border security at this time, it is true. But minds can be changed and Senators can be convinced that supporting border security is politically necessary for their own re-election. If these Senators do not see reason, then new Senators can be elected in due time.

This issue is important to an awful lot of voters. This issue will sway a lot of votes in the future. You may call these voters know-nothings, but each their votes counts the same as yours, Johnnie. And there are a lot more of them.

hysteric, know nothing, grow up, boy that will tell you.

Stop facing reality and stop scaring the people who don’t have to live among tens of thousands of illegals.

President Bush doesn’t need any Congressional votes to enforce the laws already on the books. He simply refuses to do so, in violation of his oath. There is nothing rabid or hysterical in this observation of his behavior.

Hell, he doesn’t even deny it.

Exactly right. He has no problem searching U.S. citizens at airports, though. Go figure.

Yah... As everybody knows, there were no searches or metal detectors at airports before Bush.

And any simpleton would know that all we friggin’ need is a ten foot fence. Anybody with a brain knows that there are no eleven foot ladders sold in mexico.

Sheesh... Seal the border already.

Tsk, tsk, johnnie, are you doing your usual drive-by ranting on another illegal thread?

Here's the deal, go back to your buddies at soundasleeps where they all agree with you on the ILLEGAL immigration issue. Bush has let us down. He promised to protect us after 9-11 and our borders need to be closed as part of that promise.

Johnnie, had you spent as much time on the border, as you’ve wasted posting uninformed rants, you might have a clue. Until I see you on the border your rants will be continue to be considered comedy.

Another incisive, brilliant post from one of the Great Minds at FR.

You deserve a Nobel nomination for ...something. And perhaps a Pulitzer as well. Keep those posts coming, your fans await them with bated breath.

Since the people of the United States have no recourse through the court system to make him enforce the law, he alone has the power to decide that illegal aliens will be permitted to prey on Americans, and he has made that decision.

A very carefully worded sophistry, since the courts have no such power, but...

Congress does.

Congress is eager and willing to impeach him for apparent failure in Iraq, but not for failing to stem the invasion from the south.
And since

the people elect representatives and senators to deal with that, representative democracy has it covered.

Don't blame a fault in the tricameral system. Blame the selective outrage of Congress.
The people do have the power, albeit weilded by criminal clowns.

NEW HAVE INDEPENDENT

First 50 Sign Up for New ID

by Melissa Bailey | July 23, 2007 5:21 PM | Permalink | Comments (6)

The first 50 people Monday signed up for the city’s new ID card one day in advance of its official roll-out, as protesters lined up outside City Hall, heckling the mayor (click on the play arrow to watch) and calling immigrants a threat to American jobs.

City boosters and immigrant rights supporters sat down for photos in City Hall to sign up for advance copies of the city’s new Elm City Residency Card, a multi-use card available to all residents, regardless of immigration status. The card, which has propelled New Haven to the national spotlight amid federal immigration debate, can be used to open a library account or bank account, pay a parking meter, use city parks for free, and as a photo ID.

“If folks have an issue about immigration or border security, they should talk to President Bush,” responded Mayor John DeStefano, Jr., as a protester’s megaphone blared outside.

Members of the public can sign up for the ID card starting Tuesday at 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in a new office of Elm City Residency, on the left as you enter City Hall from the entrance at 165 Church St. That office will be open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. thereafter. The card costs $10 for adults, $5 for children. Click here for background on the card; click here to read about its uses.

Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. (pictured with city staffer Camelle Scott, examining the photo taken for his ID) said he believed protesters would not thwart or delay the ID program. “There’ll be a lot of theater and drama in the next day, and then I think it’ll die down some,” he said.

Protesters from the Southern Connecticut Immigration Reform called the program “The Illegal Alien I.D.” The protesters, who paced in the rain all morning as people filed into City Hall, declined to identify themselves or speak with the Independent. The group has said it intends to ask the Freedom of Information Commission to release the list of people who sign up for the Elm City ID.

The mayor said he’d “defend the integrity” of the ID program and fight the FOIA request, but “frankly if we’re forced to disclose [the list], then we’ll disclose.”

Yale Law School professor Bob Solomon and his law clinic has pledged to fight any such request. Of the protesters outside, who called for protecting American jobs from illegal immigrants’ hands, Solomon said: “We’re in serious trouble if these are the people who are protecting us.”

Inside, Angelo Reyes was one of the 50 people who sat down for a photo, and dropped $10, to get an advance ID. Why? “For selfish reasons,” he said. The ID doubles as a parking meter card for use at downtown meters and restaurants. Reyes, a developer who’s fixing up a large swath of Fair Haven’s Grand Avenue, said he’d like to see the Parxsmart parking meter program expand to Fair Haven.

Fernando Lopez, who came here illegally from Mexico, showed up Monday with his wife and child in search of an ID so that he could get a bank account. He was told to return Tuesday.

To get an ID, applicants must bring acceptable identification and proof of residency; click here for a list of acceptable documents.

Mayor DeStefano, long time supporter of the gay lobby in New Haven expects at least 10 thousand “immigrants” to sign up for the ID card.
