Pit Bulls and Stupid Fools

Our dogs were more like comedians than commandos. They showed zero unwarranted aggression towards people and pooches. They had amazing discernment, insane athletic ability and undaunted courage. This breed impacted me so much I wrote a book about their magnificent spirit (go to amazon.com The Bulldog Attitude).

As far as I’m concerned, the Pit Bull is one of the most awesome animals on the planet. And before hype hit the fan, and the local news needed fresh chum for the gullible ones and the pimps and thugs became the owners of this noble animal, The United States of America thought so as well.

Here's a good one to get the flame wars started this morning.

From my personal experience with my younger dog, Ulysses, he's right on. About a year and a half ago I set out to get a Labrador/Great Dane cross. The Scott County, KY Humane Society had a great 10 week old puppy that looked like one, Ulysses, and I adopted him. As he grew up he didn't get as large as I expected and started to look more and more like a pit. Now he's now roughly a year and a half old, about 82 pounds and is jet black except for a whit stripe down his chin, a huge white chest, and white on the backs of his legs and toes. He's one of the strongest dogs I've even known and has the most appealing, friendly, bumpy attitude I've ever seen in a dog. He gets along well with most other dogs and hugely well with people, being assertively friendly. While most dogs will come up to a stranger somewhat cautiously and slowly make friends, Ulysses will bound up to a stranger, bump the "victim" with his nose and demand to be petted. He's also a great free lance hunter, having cleared my entire back yard of squirrels, which had previously done a great deal of damage to my house.

Overall, I'd give this article and A+ for its treatment of pit bulls and curse the subhumans who've degraded these dogs.

Now, LET THE FLAME WARS BEGIN!!

Sure, right, strange dog bounds up to me like that his approach will necessarily be taken as an attack and will be met with maximum force.

You people are strange.

"Yes, the U.S. believed that the Pit Bull was great enough to be our mascot in World War One. During WWI, Life magazine frequently had Pit Bulls on their covers and in their cartoons, using them as a symbol of America’s stalwart spirit."

Another symbol the libs have destroyed.

My vet once told me that he’s been bit by more chihuahuas than by pits.

The libs destroyed the pit bull? I guess the destroyed children had nothing to do with it. Lies all lies! Right?

Yes, the U.S. believed that the Pit Bull was great enough to be our mascot in World War One.

In a photo album of my Great Grandfather's there were pictures of his officer's training camp in WWI. There are several photos of a pit bull that was clearly a camp favorite. In one set of pictures the men are doing a casualty drill with strectchers, and the dog is right there with a red (one would guess)cross painted on his side.

Every Pit-Bull I have come across in my entire life has been like the author and you describe.....if I had to pick a breed of dog that is “naturally” yippety and aggresive it would be the chihuahua, LOL.

The dogs in question are a product of the culture that is forced upon them.....an extension of the culture of their owners. PC demands that we cannot reference empirical reality in a variety of issues so that no-one is “offended”. The bum-wrap this breed of dogs is getting across the board blatantly ignores the PC principle of wrongful profiling because of the actions of a few.

And you're paranoid. Seek help before someone gets hurt.

I was attacked by a pit bull a few years ago.

I was walking through the empty lot next to my house to the post office at the end of it . Suddenly, I felt something bump into the back of my legs. I turned around, expecting to see a neighbor's obnoxious brat precious child, and found myself staring down into the unmistakable "triangle" eyes of a young pit bull.

He was grinning and looked friendly, so I held my hand under his nose for him to sniff. He did so and licked my fingers (I tried not to notice how big were his jaws and teeth) and scritched him under the chin. He really enjoyed this, leaning back and forth, back and forth....

Suddenly the dog reared up on his hind legs , grabbed me around the waist, and leaned his head so far back his ears were practically touching his shoulders. "OK, I've made the maximum amount of "neck room" for you; surely you won't mind standing here all day scritching me" he seemed to say. And I might have been there for some time, except the pit bull's owner came by on his bike then, and called the dog away. The owner scowled at me like he thought I was trying to steal his dog. I never saw that dog again.

While all this was going on , my pack-a standard dachshund, 2 miniature dachshunds, and a chihuahua-saw the whole thing from their fenced in back yard. They were displeased, screaming with tiny canine rage at me for touching another dog without their permission, and when I took them back into the house, they shunned me for at least an hour.

That was the only time in my life that a dog hugged me back!

IMO it’s not the dog but the owner.

Unfortunately so many of this breed have been used for fighting and drug protection that the offspring will probably be more ferocious.

There a thousands in shelters now that are probably beyond retraining because of their previous owners. Dumbasses who think having this dog makes them macho. Many more thousands of this breed have been put down.

There is only one Cesar Milan and he can’t be everywhere unfortunately.

And finally, those like Mr Vick should be jailed for a long time for abusing and using these animals for money. It’s a very sad thing............and there are many, many places you wouldn’t even imagine where there still are more dog fights going on tonight.

While on this subject google HOG fighting where they use pigs to train dogs to hunt and/or fight. The pig is helpless and it’s inhumane but this goes on everyday as well.

Apparently you have missed my point and are now trying to twist my words to back your own agenda - a liberal tactic I despise.

On top of that insult, you use "the children" approach - truly despicable. My point was that the pit bull was a symbol -

"using them as a symbol of America’s stalwart spirit."

- The libs have taken that symbol and turned it into something to be shunned and destroyed.

I do not keep pets of any kind but have no issue with any pet someone chooses to have - This IS still America.

Have a nice day.

Uh, wishing death on the author’s child because he is enthusiastic about/defending a dog breed that you don’t is a bit extreme, isn’t it?

Chichuahuas are NOT dogs! They are rats that some how inbred with liberals.

The only good use for these annoying yapping ankle biters is to make dog food out of ‘em.

Yes, I know. It’s cruel...but a great way to stop liberalism.
