WORDPOWER!
During the invasion of Salerno, Allied forces employed propaganda on a scale they had never tried before. Artillery was used to fire shells, each containing thousands of leaflets, encouraging the Germans to surrender and promising them humane treatment if they did. The shells would open about 300 feet in the air and rain down the leaflets on German troops.
One British Major made no secret of his anger at having to fire leaflets at the enemy instead of high explosives. In a short while, however, he changed his mind. For days his men had been slugging it out with German artillery. One gun was particularly well-concealed and all efforts to pinpoint its location failed. This one gun claimed 100 British lived in four days. Then, a German soldier surrendered as a result of one of the leaflets. He told the British where the German artillery was hidden. This information enabled the British forces to target that menacing artillery and knock it out in short order. Many of the Major's men lived because of the little leaflets.
Besides being an interesting history lesson, we can learn something here. How often in my career have I visited someone in the hospital or brig as a result of a fight that should never have taken place. Or how many people wound up in Family Advocacy because they were violent to a spouse or child. Why? Because the individuals involved resorted to settling differences with fists when they should have settled things with words. Like the Major who learned that firing off words instead of explosives could sometimes spare a lot of lives, in our personal and family lives we must always remain cool when differences of opinion threaten to flare into violence. It is then we must get a grip and resolve things through positive communication. It really works!
God Bless & Stay Great!

Dear God:
I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman,
Marine, Sailor, Soldier or National Guardsman
Feel alone or forgotten.
Please guide the people of Free Republic to
The FR Canteen Post Office
So they can e-mail a service man or woman today.
AMEN
Some of these links are broken. Im using this post out of respect to Mr. Tonkin as he used this for his first post. My apologies, Id change the broken links if I could.
WHEN YOU HAVE LOST YOUR TEMPER
O God, I know my temper is far too quick.
I know only too well how liable I am to flare up,
and to say things for which afterwards I am sorry.
O God, help me. Help me to think before I speak.
When I feel I am going to blast out,
help me to keep quiet for just a moment or two,
until I get a grip on myself again.
Help me to take myself and others less seriously
so that I dont reach the point of being angry at all.
Help me to keep perspective and to let go of my anger. Amen.

Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with thee.

Instincts
READ: Psalm 32
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. Psalm 32:8
Flying into a storm is a dangerous experience. The temptation is to fly by your instincts, or, as aviators say, by the seat of your pants. But as any pilot will tell you, thats a prescription for disaster. If you rely on your feelings and instincts, you become disoriented, thinking the plane is going up when its actually going down. Thankfully, the instrument panel is set to magnetic north and can be trusted every time. Letting your instruments guide you, even when it feels like theyre wrong, helps ensure safety in the storm.
We all face storms that threaten to confuse and disorient us. It may be a call from the doctors office, a friend who has betrayed you, or a shattered dream. Those are the times to be especially careful. When you are blinded by lifes disappointments, dont trust your instincts. Flying by the seat of your pants in the storms of life can lead to despair, confusion, and vengeful responses that make matters worse. God wants to guide you, and His Word is packed with wisdom and insights for living. His Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Ps. 119:105). Where He leads is always right!
Go to your Bible, and trust God to guide you. He promises, I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go (Ps. 32:8).
The God who governs galaxies
And makes the thunder roar,
Gently guides my little craft
With safety to the shore. Berg
The closer we walk with God, the clearer we see His guidance.

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.
May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.
May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.
G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.
