Bush: Americans will realize need for aliens
The Washington Times ^ | July 20, 2007 | Stephen Dinan

Posted on 07/20/2007 6:17:46 PM PDT by Baladas

President Bush yesterday said Americans will soon realize they need the immigrants and foreign temporary workers that would have been allowed by his immigration bill, which was defeated in the Senate last month.

Mr. Bush, in a town hall session in Nashville, Tenn., also refused to say whether he will pardon two U.S. Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a fleeing drug-smuggling suspect, saying the prosecutor was a friend of his who made his case to the jury that convicted the agents.

If Mr. Bush was hoping the immigration issue would disappear after his bill's failure, those hopes were dashed, as he was asked repeatedly about border security during the forum — meant to highlight his commitment to cutting the deficit.

"The bill failed and I can't make a prediction to you at this point, sir, where it's going to head," the president told one questioner. "I can make you a prediction, though, that pretty shortly people are going to be knocking on people's doors saying, man, we're running out of workers."

Mr. Bush said there are workers who will do jobs Americans aren't doing in the agriculture sector in particular, and without them the jobs will go unfilled.

this argument is so lame I go brain-dead..."we'll since we did it for years we can keep doing it forever..."....argggghhhhh!!!

I wasn't calling for a continuation of allowing illegal immigration. On the contrary, I've called for securing our borders and putting a stop to the practice of allowing illegals to pour across our borders. My post to the other FReeper was just to counter the idea that the problems with illegal immigration is a recent problem. I want the border secured and illegals stopped. But, I want a responsible approach to this problem, not an emotional knee-jerk approach.

And I'll reiterate...there is "problematic" and the is "epidemic"...in 1986 with Reagan and his amnesty...it was problematic.(and you can go back further if you want)..today it has grown to epidemic proportions... to say that it is not a recent problem is not to recognize or say anything about the extent and level of the problem...

Uh, wrong person I think - I don’t believe that is my quote. I had said the 90% figure is wrong and I’m the last person to be about pc. But maybe you were trying to be funny.

Probably both...:o)

Funny how the states are knowingly allowing farmers and others to get away without paying taxes, or knowingly allowing illegals to get away without paying taxes. Yes, the IRS would not ever be interested in collecting taxes from these employees or employers. So, tell me, o’great one, where are your sources to back up what you say I did not see with my own eyes?

Ok, oh dumb one, I grew up on a farm, I live on a farm, I raise beef and buy and sell cattle, I have a degree in accounting. I know a whole lot of farmers and I read most of the trade magazines, also I know the exemptions given farmers, in most cases they, the farmers , are exempt from paying minimum wages, and reporting if the work is seasonal and/or contract. Same thing applies to working underage kids, they have exemptions.

If you don’t think that racism isn’t in play here, you haven’t been paying attention.

Why don't you quit waving around your Race Card. You're making yourself look like an ignorant fool.

If this is his agenda....and it seems more obvious every day it is... ...then he will find some way to implement it.

Probably so, it's obvious our opinions count for next to nothing. Now, if we were illegal aliens...

Notice that the two have abandoned this thread after having the skin flayed off of their asses and have not addressed a single one of my posts?

They figure that they can flit on to the next thread and spread their lies with this one forgotten.

We need to keep pinging them back to this thread until they make la raza’s website their home page and stay the hell off of FR.

Good luck selling your “tough luck” mantra to the voters. Write and let us all know how that works out.

“When the social benefits to illegals are cut off, and we make it a crime (with a federal prison sentence) for employers to hire illegals, they will head back to their homeland, and our nation’s chances for long-term survival will dramatically improve decrease.”

Oh, that must be right...you must be correct. A nation that give the world about 90 percent of its new technology and medical breakthroughs; a nation that almost singlehandedly protected the globe from the spread of Soviet domination; a nation that has developed into the most significant economic and military power man has ever seen, and it in only two centuries time; a nation like ours just couldn’t survive without tens of millions of functionally illiterate invaders picking our lettuce. (Mega-Sarc)

You, sir...ma’am...or whatever the hell you are...are a complete idiot.

It will take awhile for Americans to break back into the building trades. The contractors are not easily going to give up their lion’s share.

I am on board how about you? Oh wait Melas, you support the illegal alien criminals and are just late to the show.

No, I support a sane immigration policy as put forth by the President of the United States whom I helped elect to office. Period and nuff said.
