President Bush yesterday said Americans will soon realize they need the immigrants and foreign temporary workers that would have been allowed by his immigration bill, which was defeated in the Senate last month.
Mr. Bush, in a town hall session in Nashville, Tenn., also refused to say whether he will pardon two U.S. Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a fleeing drug-smuggling suspect, saying the prosecutor was a friend of his who made his case to the jury that convicted the agents.
If Mr. Bush was hoping the immigration issue would disappear after his bill's failure, those hopes were dashed, as he was asked repeatedly about border security during the forum — meant to highlight his commitment to cutting the deficit.
"The bill failed and I can't make a prediction to you at this point, sir, where it's going to head," the president told one questioner. "I can make you a prediction, though, that pretty shortly people are going to be knocking on people's doors saying, man, we're running out of workers."
Mr. Bush said there are workers who will do jobs Americans aren't doing in the agriculture sector in particular, and without them the jobs will go unfilled.

I think it is not only OK, but ‘good’ to disagree with our public officials. If they don’t do what they promised their constitutents, they should be voted out of office next term.
Our President has just a year and a half left to serve. Many are angry at his choices, and rightfully so. Our voices may be loud, but they are not going to change his mind, or fix what has become broken under his watch.
There is not much we can do about it at this late date other than direct our frustration and anger into positive directives that will re-build a strong base for the conservative thinker.
(And time is running out, folks.)

True, but not all are drop outs. A lot of people out there prefer to work with their hands, manual type labor, and many are quite intelligent, and prefer not to sit at a desk all day.
The problem is the wages no longer support manual type work due to low wage illegal labor, by the millions, in *every* industry where there is some labor involved.
Remember when roofing in the construction industry paid really good wages?
Same with almost all aspects of construction, or quality cooks, heating and air conditioning, warehouseman etc.
Industries where almost any labor is involved has been savaged by low wage illegal labor. With credible reports estimating upwards of 30 million illegals in country, not to mention anchor babies. For years now, Americans having been voting, screaming, demanding, protesting for relief, and saying enough!
It begs the question, how many millions are enough?
45 million? 60 million? 90 million?
And is this really all about cheap, low wage labor. Or is there another, sinister underlying motive here?
