San Diego Officially Declares July "Gay Pride Month"

SAN DIEGO, July 20, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - At a hearing on July 17, the Mayor and City Council unanimously declared July 2007 to be Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Month in the City of San Diego.

Despite the organized efforts of approximately 40 people who protested at the meeting, the city council unanimously voted in favor of the recent bill proposal by Mayor Jerry Sanders, Council President Scott Peters, and lesbian council member Toni Atkins.

During the hearing, Council President Scott Peters gave an unfair time advantage to homosexual representatives, the James Hartline Report (JHR) alleges. Each side of the debate was supposed to have 15 minutes speaking time. Former homosexual activist James Hartline was only allowed to speak for 5 minutes and 2 seconds by the clock, with Peters claiming that Hartline had used up the full amount. In addition, while many homosexual advocates were called on to speak, none of the opposition members were called upon until Peters was challenged on this point.

Priscilla Schreiber, President of Grossmont Unified High School District, told the council, "How can you betray this city's Christian heritage by voting every year for an event that destroys our youth?" She continued, "How can you honor an organization that has a history of hiring pedophiles?" Looking directly at Councilman Brian Maienschein, Schreiber stated, "Councilman Maienschein, I stood with you at the foot of the Mt. Soledad Cross. I ask you to search your soul as to what you have become. Why are you betraying your previously professed Christianity for a political agenda that is destroying our kids?"

Schreiber told LifeSiteNews.com that the homosexual movement, influenced by Hollywood and backed by huge amounts of money, relentlessly pushes forward new bills, about 25 each year. "They're going to rewrite our text-books and come down against the Church," Schreiber continued. "The new bills push homosexuality in businesses, churches, through freedom of speech…across the board."

Schreiber further explained to LifeSiteNews.com, "The Christian conservative movement goes out for a battle then goes home. This movement never goes home. They relentlessly try to cram new legislation down our throats. Even in the Church people are being led away by the idea, 'just let them live their lives'. The passivity is gut-wrenching. Young families don't care what their kids are getting exposed to."

Although homosexuals are the minority, she continued, "What I would say is that they are winning the battle of influence. Politicians have been told 'don't go there if you want to save your political status'. They just compromise and start protecting what's political correctness."

Although the Republican Party platform includes support for the traditional definition of marriage, all three of the Republican council members voted in favor of Gay Pride Month.

Cindy Seiger, Director of Concerned Women for America's Southern Counties, who was also present at the hearing, sent this statement to LifeSiteNews.com: "Contrary to the use of familiar mantras like hate, bigotry and intolerance by 'Pride' supporters, the Christian community is none of these. Our desire would be for homosexuals to understand that their validation does not come from a weekend (or month) of sexually-charged events. It comes from a Creator who loves them and wants them to live as He designed them to live. The real issue is what we will accept as appropriate public conduct in our community and what we will accept as beneficial to our society and our children."

We lived in El Cajon. It’s gone down the tube too. Thanks for not mentioning the screw up in the last sentence.

I thought the month of June was already accepted as the national Gay Pride Month?

Remember when Hillcrest was just a nice place to go eat at the “Chicken Potpie Place”?

Or the "City Deli". Both were in walking distance from the PacBell central office on Robinson St. I had to visit that office from time to time in the early 80s.

One local quipped that Hillcrest is about the "gay 90's". You're either gay or you're 90.

I moved my family to Idaho in Dec 2000. I've visited a couple times for high school reunions and to help my mom move to a new house (away from Chula Juana). Visits immediately remind me of all the reasons I left. I have no desire to return. Visits are by necessity only and as short as possible.

All of the folks up here where we live (north of you) tell us the same thing when they go back to visit. It confirms why we left and they also tell us it’s gotten worse since we left which I find hard to believe.

Loved Foggy’s! So many cool places are probably gone now. :(
I wish we had a Jiberto’s here too. lol I had thought of going on a vacation someday back to San Diego, but the more I hear, the less likely it is. Would love to see Calafia, though!

I have known a lot of so called "homosexuals" and IMHO: The one overreaching reality for gays is unbearable and debilitating guilt and shame about the empty and self destructive lives they choose to lead.

Gay's desperate desire for approval and hysterical need to suppress all criticism makes this crystal clear.

I think if anyone needs a month, or even a day, to be told that they should be "proud" of who they are, that it's because they instinctively know that it is something that they SHOULD NOT be proud of.

Excellent; absolutely excellent response to this story.

San Diego used to be a conservative city, where are they?

The mayor and City Council are still answerable to the local citizenry, if they don't approve of actions such as this, all they need do is vote them out. But will they?

san diego city and county politics are insular and vehy strange.

the current county d.a. is a lesbian, bonnie m. dumanis.

her election in 2002 was crooked. i couldn’t believe it when it was happening.

the san diego union tribune lied about the then current d.a., paul pfingst. he was an honest and reliable man.

but dumanis claimed he was “anti-semitic”.

pfingst is 1/4 jewish.

the county sheriff, bill kolender, is jewish and wrote a letter to the sdut saying that this was a lie, pfingst is not anti-semitic.

so, the union tribune started pushing dumanis’ gayness, and the gays in san diego county are numerous made the difference in the election, pushing a reliable paul pfingst out, and bonnie m. dumanis in.

then the sdut ran editorials denying the gay vote had anything to do with her election. uh duh.

and, they editorialized, “isn’t it great we’ve got the 1st gay d.a. in the u.s.?” —which the sdut helped create.

reference 2002 election, kolender and pfingst are near the bottom:

Why can’t it just be called “Deviant Sexual Behavior Pride Month”? The necrophiliacs and bestialitists are getting short shrift here.
