NASHVILLE, Tenn. - President Bush sharply challenged critics of his stalled immigration-overhaul efforts on Thursday, suggesting that failure to pass a guest-worker program could trigger a labor shortage in the United States.
At a town-hall style meeting, Bush also rebuffed a question about whether he would consider pardoning two Border Patrol agents in prison for the cover-up of the shooting of a drug trafficker in Texas.
"No, I won't make you that promise," Bush told a woman who asked about a possible pardon. Many Republicans in Congress have said the men should not have been convicted and have criticized the federal U.S. attorney for even prosecuting the agents.
"I know it's an emotional issue but people need to look at the facts. These men were convicted by a jury of their peers after listening to the facts" as presented by U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, said Bush. Bush called Sutton a friend.

“Who told you illegals are put in front of those waiting in line?”
Dear Mr. Jorge,
I used the word behest in the sense that they (the illegals) are receiving a de-facto welcome to “cut in line” when our leaders refuse to do their duty (under the Constitution)of protecting the sovereignty of our country.
Defending the indefensible.
Mr. Bush is missing something very fundamental. He is wrong, but for the sake of discussion let’s say he’s not.
“If” as he says, we will have real shortages of labor without hordes of ILLEGALS, then this indicates some fundamental flaws in our economic structure. Such flaws should be addressed directly, not papered over with cheap, unskilled, ILLEGAL labor. Ultimately setting our economy up for a harder fall later on when the reality of trying to sustain it with ILLEGALS no longer works.
For a so called Republican, he has no faith in the ability of the market to find the needed labor via the incentive of market regulated wages.
In addition, he doesn’t (publicly) take into account the hidden costs of cheap, unskilled, ILLEGAL labor. Which, IMO, is a deliberate omission.
“The liberals have great respect for their coward liberal leaders.”
Perhaps I should have said:
Traitors are respected by none save, perhaps, dishonorable men — such as themselves.
Is that better?
Bring it on, we’re raedy!
true!!!!
I'm sorry if that offends some of you Bush bots, but it's time you're going to have to face reality too. His global agenda is destroying America. He's going to push the SPP as hard, or harder than he has pushed amnesty too. By the time his presidency is over, America will no longer exist. Our Sovereignty will be lost.
He sure doesn't sound like he's going to pardon the two border guards either. That really blows too.
There is absolutely no other explanation for him to do this.
Bingo! The SPP is on the fall agenda. That will be the next big sellout Bush will push. He's got to go!
I'm NOT willing to see our country destroyed because this man is a globalist, and if that means we have to Impeach him, then so be it.
I'm with ya baby!
It's amazing that Rove, magnificent bastard extrordinaire, hasn't been able to figure this out.
Tells you how important the NAU agenda is- compared to Iraq- for these elites.
I’m actually for impeachment at this point. Yeah, I said it.
This elitist crap has got to stop- and not just Bush, ALL OF THEM.
But we’d all do well to remember what happened the last time there was an elitist named George...

I agree. It's not going to do us any good unless we get the career criminals....errrr I mean Politicians out of there too. ;o)
Are you talking about GW's daddy, aka: Mr. United Nations?
No, George the King.
The boy just keeps beating that dead horse and insulting us.
Oh. I thought Bush senior was the king. LOL
Just a few weeks ago, US citizens let Bush and Congress know what they thought of CIR and the traitorous, stealth way they were trying to defy the will of the people.
The Elites are now quite sure that their plan is going to be fought by US citizens.
I wonder how our elitists intend to handle it when US citizens realize and take seriously what they are up to.
The elitists have done a good job of never telling people what they are really doing, leaving people confused at the disconnect of the government with the people. They have been able to quell open discussion by constantly pushing that those who have wised up are just kooky.
I think that may be reaching critical mass. Talk radio is key.
Agree with you on that. Not too likely to happen. You know these Talk radio hosts know it. I have a hard time listening to them because they act as though they have never heard of it. Takes away thir credibility when they will not even discuss the spp and what it means.
You know the MSM, with the exception of Beck and Dobbs, keep people distracted with tabloid news like Paris Hilton and missing persons.

Selleck is not particularly conservative except in his family life, as I understand it. He is a registered independent. I don’t know of any conservative politician whom he has openly endorsed, but there may be a few.
Traitors: now they do have their supporters. Remember 1/3 of the people at the time of the American Revolution were open Tories. One of Benjamin Franklin’s sons was a Tory. So I would imagine that 1/3 of the people at all times will be traitorous if there’s something in “it” for them.
