I think this photo was staged as no person in a hostage situation would remove a necklace and ensnare their hand rendering it useless for an escape.
The grit under the nails does in fact show that this person was clawing thru something and if the necklace were there, the cross would have pulled off - instead of being in its pristine and shiny state.
PS - for a religious person, you are awfully free with the ad hominems. And your effort to hijack this post with the best images the kgb has to offer is an obvious bit of disinformation.
