ABC News' Teddy Davis and Lindsey Ellerson Report: Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., told Planned Parenthood Tuesday that sex education for kindergarteners, as long as it is "age-appropriate," is "the right thing to do."
"I remember Alan Keyes . . . I remember him using this in his campaign against me," Obama said in reference to the conservative firebrand who ran against him for the U.S. Senate in 2004. Sex education for kindergarteners had become an issue in his race against Keyes because of Obamas work on the issue as chairman of the health committee in the Illinois state Senate.
"'Barack Obama supports teaching sex education to kindergarteners,'" said Obama mimicking Keyes' distinctive style of speech. "Which -- I didnt know what to tell him (laughter)."
"But its the right thing to do," Obama continued, "to provide age-appropriate sex education, science-based sex education in schools."

Speaking to a young woman who asked a question about sex education, Obama said, "You, as a peer, can have enormous power over your age cohort but youve got to have some support from the schools. You certainly should not have to be fighting each and every instance by providing accurate information outside of the classroom because inside the classroom the only thing that can be talked about is abstinence."
"Keep in mind: I honor and respect young people who choose to delay sexual activity," Obama continued. "Ive got two daughters, and I want them to understand that sex is not something casual. That's something that we definitely want to communicate and should be part of any curriculum. But we also know that when the statistics tell us that nearly half of 15 to 19 year olds are engaging in sexual activity, that for us to leave them in ignorance is potentially consigning them to illness, pregnancy, poverty, and in some cases, death."
When Obama's campaign was asked by ABC News to explain what kind of sex education Obama considers "age appropriate" for kindergarteners, the Obama campaign pointed to an Oct. 6, 2004 story from the Daily Herald in which Obama had "moved to clarify" in his Senate campaign that he "does not support teaching explicit sex education to children in kindergarten. . . The legislation in question was a state Senate measure last year that aimed to update Illinois' sex education standards with 'medically accurate' information . . . 'Nobody's suggesting that kindergartners are going to be getting information about sex in the way that we think about it,' Obama said. 'If they ask a teacher 'where do babies come from,' that providing information that the fact is that it's not a stork is probably not an unhealthy thing. Although again, that's going to be determined on a case by case basis by local communities and local school boards.'"
In addition to local schools informing kindergarteners that babies do not come from the stork, the state legislation Obama supported in Illinois, which contained an "opt out" provision for parents, also envisioned teaching kindergarteners about "inappropriate touching," according to Obama's presidential campaign. Despite Obama's support, the legislation was not enacted.
Yep, that is the "sex positive" agenda. And it isn't just in America. And it isn't a new trend in teaching.
They oppose abstinence not because "it doesn't work" but because they find it to be an "unhealthy" supression of sexual desires. If it feels good, do it. And they want to end all moral judgements over sexual pairings regardless of sex, age, relation, marital status, number, or species of partner(s).
Whats next? One of the other donk candidates going to try to one-up Obama and claim they favor sex-ed for pre-schoolers?

Who says my vote doesn’t count?!
I’m glad he said this, it reminds me of why we homeschool our kids and why liberals are evil.
why do we need sex ed in Kindergarten in the first place? Even age appropriate sex ed, why???
So the homersexuals can begin to recruit............
In our state, HIV awareness as part of the health curriculum is required in all grades K - 12. Parents are allowed to opt their kids out of the presentation if they want to. I flipped out when I learned this and opted my child out.
Luckily, we live in a rural area where the school system is pretty in tune with the values of the parents. I got a call from the teacher letting me know it wasn’t as bad as it sounded. Basically, for the kindergarten they talked about germs and washing their hands.
So, I let my daughter attend and their “HIV Awareness Curriculum” consisted of talking about how important it is to cover your mouth when you cough/sneeze because of germs. Then they colored a picture of an alligator and glued a Kleenex to the end of his nose.
Not nearly as salacious as it sounds.
When they move on from basic hygiene to “sex ed,” my child will be opted out.
Greg, really! Do you think sex-ed is about reproducing?! Where you been hiding? It's about deconstructing gender. For a generation of trannies.
There were just too many Dem. votes in Chicago.
They do set themselves impossible tasks don't they? Your average two year old girl shuns boys toys and wants princess stories . . .
Sorry I missed your point through your approach.
That was last week...
Oh, for sure. Little children are resolute little conservatives. That's why you have to start YOUNG if you're going to deconstruct gender.
Teacher: "People don't have to be boys or girls. A family doesn't need a mother and father. A family can be anything you want. Two dads. Three moms. No dads. Greg and Jason. You can be anything you want." (Three-year-old: "Oh! Can I be a boat?" Teacher: "Uhhh.. no.")
Isn't that special?

Sorry for the multiple post. Computers. Wha.
Grin.
Its always difficult to pin down what a Dem really thinks.
This article leaves the impression that all Obama wants is to let teachers tell kids babies don’t come from storks, if the kids should ask.
That’s a cool map. I assume that it shows population and Republican/Democrat voting patterns? You have a link to the site?
Age appropriate sex-ed for kindergarteners? I can’t say I’m surprised, just saddened. Childhood, prepubescent years should be free of sexualization, but he advocates we sexualize them at such a young age? Aren’t we as a culture already sex-saturated enough? Do we need to share the ‘joy’ with the youngest, most innocent among us? And the scarier part - who decides what is ‘age appropriate’ and what the content is? Shudder.
