"Peace Mom" to hold rally downtown (Lynchburg, VA)

Preparations are in place for the visit of "Peace Mom" Cindy Sheehan to Lynchburg on Thursday.

Sheehan and a group of other activists will be stopping here as part of what she calls "The Summer of Love, '07: A Journey for Peace and Humanity." The trip - which combines a motorcade between cities and a march at each location - began in Crawford, Texas, on July 10 and will end in New York, where Sheehan is planning a "Summer of Love" rally on July 26.

In Lynchburg, she will be joined by the Rev. Lennox Yearwood Jr., a minister, Air Force reservist and leader of the Washington-based Hip Hop Caucus. Those two, and other speakers, will be part of a rally at Riverfront Park on Thursday evening sponsored by Code Pink and Common Dreams.

According to Capt. J.P. Stokes, the Lynchburg Police Department will control traffic in the downtown business area between the hours of 5:30 and 7 p.m. Traffic on Jefferson Street will be shut down completely until 8, although pedestrian access will be allowed.

According to a police news release: "Those in attendance at the rally are asked to park in the City Parking Deck accessed from the 900 blocks of Main Street or Commerce Street. Attendees may walk to Monument Terrace or Riverfront Park from that location."

Sheehan, who turned 50 the day the march began, lost a son, Casey, in Iraq in April of 2004. She first gained national prominence in early August of 2005 when she set up a campsite outside the entrance to President Bush's Crawford ranch and vowed to remain until he came out to meet with her and explain the cause for which her son died.

Bush never appeared, and Sheehan eventually left, but she has since expanded her campaign to end the war in Iraq into a parallel quest to seek the impeachment of Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney. Besides speaking all over the United States, she has also traveled to a number of foreign countries including Australia, Belgium, Cuba and (most controversially) Venezuela.

Earlier this month, Sheehan vowed to run against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi if Pelosi failed to introduce articles of impeachment against Bush and Cheney.

Thursday's event will begin at 6 p.m. with a march from the top of Monument Terrace to the park. The rally will begin as soon as the marchers arrive.

On Friday, the Sheehan group will continue on to Charlottesville.

I thought Cindy Sheehan had gracefully bowed out of the limelite about a month ago?

There is something clearly wrong with her: she demonstrates obsessive and compulsive behaviors. She needs help, not attention.

Poor woman. Won’t *someone* get her into some treatment program?

During Cindy's "Fast" she pigged out on birthday cake and smoothies, Cindy's "Retirement" lasted less than a French vacation and now she being bused to DC during her "March".

Casey Died, Cindy Lied.

“The trip - which combines a motorcade between cities and a march at each location”

How much carbon credits did Mother Moonbat buy to participate? How much CO2 are these moonbats putting into the atmosphere by doing this charade?

Anyone going to FReep this?

Me too. I actually had a little bit of hope for her then.

I agree. I think she's addicted to the attention. Or something. She's definitely got some emotional problems.

Oh brother...how long did it take her to think that title up? Am I the only one who mentally dashed back to Woodstock?

The Summer of Love, ‘07: A Journey for Peace and Humanity.

Hip Hop Caucus.

Code Pink.

Common Dreams.

I simply cannot describe the revulsion I feel when I see these names. Self-aggrandizing media-whores, naively useful idiots, and the backbone of the Islamic terror-war on the West.

We must resurrect REAL penalties for sedition and treason if we are to survive as a nation - because the horrors that can be inflicted upon our people and our culture by the enemy they support today are orders of magnitude higher than they were in the sixties.

I don’t know where she’ll be after she defiles Charlottesville on Friday, but she’s planning to crash Arlington National Cemetary on Monday.

I'm here in Lynchburg. And so is an enormous conservative, Bible-believing, troop-supporting community. Not to mention the Falwell legacy and Liberty University / Thomas Road Baptist Church. Hopefully this will be an enormous waste of Cindy's time.
