CBS's Pelley Moving To NY (Katie's replacement? - Dinosaur Media DeathWatchâ„¢)
TV Newser ^ | July 17, 2007 | Staff

Posted on 07/17/2007 4:00:51 PM PDT by abb

The latest name to surface in the ongoing Katie Couric saga at CBS News is that of Scott Pelley, a Washington-based 60 Minutes correspondent since 2004. According to a scenario being heard in whispers at CBS News, Pelly is being positioned to possibly replace Couric at some future date, should her numbers not improve.

Pelley, CBS's former chief White House correspondent, is in the process of moving with his family from the Washington area to New York, where 60 Minutes is produced.

In confirming the move, a CBS spokesperson tells TVNewser: "Scott is an integral part of 60 Minutes. The move is a practical matter."

Pelly was a candidate to replace embattled anchor Dan Rather before Couric was wooed to the CBS Evening news last spring. Rather was said to have been campaigning for Pelley, a fellow Texan.

Should this plan go down, don't look for it to happen before the '08 elections, CBS sources say. As for Pelley, his move north is expected in about a month.

As for the speculation Pelley is in any way being groomed to take over the "Evening News" chair, the CBS spokesperson tells TVNewser that kind of talk is "PURE BUNK."

By the end of this decade or shortly thereafter, television networks as we know them today will cease to exist. After the '08 elections, ABC, NBC, and CBS will eliminate their evening news broadcasts.

Given their bias, and in some cases their out right rigging of the “news” for the benefit of the Democrat Party, it can’t happen soon enough.

If only Jon Klien had left his pajamas behind at CBS. I mean there's talemnt in his pajamas, but he took them to CNN.

And CBS News get the CNN guy who at one time held Jon Klien's job at CNN.

There's a reality show somewhere in all of that manuvering, perhaps a show called "Loser Swap".

"...Pelly was a candidate to replace embattled anchor Dan Rather"

I'd hate to be the guy who nixed that idea.

Rick Kaplan, I had to look that loser's name. He's fallen so far so fast nobody remembers him.

Maybe he was brought in by Moonves to really, really tank CBS News so that they could switch to something that brings in money instead of hemorrhaging it?

Agreed. The whole format is as obsolete as newsreels. The networks could make more money if the ran a game show in the same time slot.

"I heard that Mary Mapes (of all people) tore into Katie Kouric yesterday."

She said that Couric's delivery just made people uncomfortable becase she sounds like she's been kidnapped, drugged and is reading a hostage letter. Pretty spot on, really.

That can’t do that, the anchor spot is now a woman’s seat. SeeBS is Constitutionally constrained to nominate a woman to replace Ruth Bader ..., whoops, wrong token ... ah, make that Perky Katie.

SeeBS ought to save some money by just rerunning Cronkite's authoritarian shtick. Given drive-by-media's obsessive Iraq as Vietnam story telling Cronkite's old broadcasts stand a fair shot at passing for news in the senile moonbat Perky watching community.

If only. That would add 10 years to my life. But, I dont see that happening. How, could we be so lucky.

If Pelly doesn’t work out, they could call Connie Chung.
