The FBI is investigating an alleged human smuggling operation based in Chaparral, N.M., that agents say is bringing "Iraqis and other Middle Eastern" individuals across the Rio Grande from Mexico.
An FBI intelligence report distributed by the Washington, D.C. Joint Terrorism Task Force, obtained by the Blotter on ABCNews.com, says the illegal ring has been bringing Iraqis across the border illegally for more than a year.
Border Patrol officials in the area said they were unaware of the specifics of the FBI's report, and federal prosecutors in New Mexico told ABCNews.com they had no current cases involving the illegal smuggling of Iraqis.
The FBI report, issued last week, says the smuggling organization "used to smuggle Mexicans, but decided to smuggle Iraqi or other Middle Eastern individuals because it was more lucrative." Each individual would be charged a fee of $20,000 to $25,000, according to the report.
The people to be smuggled would "gather at a house on the Mexican side of the border" and then cross the Rio Grande into the U.S., the report says.

Guess we’ll have to be hit again in order to find out. Fish in a barrel. That’s how I FEEL, Chertoff. POS
Nothing will change at the boarder until we change the soiled linen in both the Senate and the House.
Islamic family values...
Duh - Build the fence!
As in whatever is happening to my country?
The criminal traitors in the Govt who are fighting to keep us vulnerable to invasion by terrorists have a lot to answer for...
Agreed; we’ve got our work cut out for us to boot these traitors out of office. Getting these people in their districts educated and onboard will take much effort.
And not only in the here and now.
They can’t build the fence now. That’s their means of escape when survivors of this coming nightmare go after the SOBs who delayed and denounced the fence. They’re probably digging an underground tunnel from D.C. to Jaurez at this very moment. Their real EXIT STRATEGY.
bttt!
It grates me that Shirt-off has gut feelings of pending US terror attacks, and at the same time he was spending his time lolligagging around the Senate pushing to make all border criminals legal and vetted in 24 hours.
A total disconnect. If a terror attack does happen, I will blame him and his ilk for worrying about the pocketbook over the well being of US citizens.
They just never stop the effort to find a manipulative plan that will work. All of us know by now, that if a border patrol agent tried to stop an Islamic person from entering our country at the southern border, he would probably be prosecuted and sent to prison for assuming a middle easterner might be a terrorist. Its just racist and nativist.
That’s the site that I went to. But I see no text there, other than ABC’s menu at the top of the page.
That’s odd....I was just there shortly before I posted on this thread and was able to read the entire article.
Still can.
It must be my computer.
I do derive some great pleasure sending Mr. Martinez letters, e-mails and phone calls advising him of his upcoming career change.
So the logical conclusion can only be one of two things:
1. Chertoff is CRAZY or
2. His loyalty to this country is to be questioned as he has no intention of protecting America or Americans.
