State of Dixie - Redux
Author ^ | 7-17-2007 | Clint Johnson

Posted on 07/17/2007 11:16:28 AM PDT by Clint Johnson

Please excuse the clumsiness of a 54-year-old, good ole Southern boy writer who don't know much about blogging, but I was curious to read some reactions to Is It True What They Say About Dixie by Mary Knapp. Miss Knapp did a fair job, but some quotes were a little out of context.

The quote about "our ancestors are racists" really should be something like: "Outsiders to the South say our ancestors were racist slave owners so today's Southerners must be racist too." My original quote was meant to show the absurdity of the point of view that some have of today's South being a dark, scary place where white folks would like to bring back slavery.

Miss Knapp also confused 19th century abolitionist/terrorist John Brown with 18th century slave trader John Brown, who I enjoy pointing out was the sugar daddy of today's ultra liberal Brown University.

Freepers can see my entire presentation this Saturday, July 21, at 10:00 p.m. on C-Spann 2 BookTV. This will be the first time that BookTV will show this event, recorded a few weeks ago at a Eagle Forum Collegians meeting in Washington, D.C.

My purpose in writing the book was to point out that The South IS RESPONSIBLE for the republic that the U.S. has become. Left to the power brokers of the Northeast, the nation would still be just 13 states hugging the Atlantic Ocean and we would still be governed by the Articles of Confederation. The South is more patriotic (demonstrated by a 2005 Dept. of Defense survey showing Southerners are twice as likely to serve in the Armed Forces than any other region); The South is more racially welcoming (Census records show black folks are abandoning the Northeast and heading South for better opportunities; The causes for The War for Southern Independence were much more complicated and numerous than the official government explanation of "The North wanted to free the South's slaves."

Hell, I got a buddy...from Jersey....wife beater T's...rebel flag on his Lexus..."

That is awesome.

When I first moved to Texas from California I put a Stars and Bars sticker on my mountain bike. It has been the catalyst of many conversations wherein I enlighten aghast folks, trailside, that the the greatness of the South lies in a set of values that basically were supported by their grandmothers, like saying yes ma'am/no ma'am, holding the door open for the person behind you, coming to the aid of a person in need, personal integrity, etc., that when taken together forms a unique and valuable culture all its' own.

It blows peoples' minds that a transplant from a liberal state would know more about the culture, history, and values of the South than many natives who were brainwashed into perceiving the the Stars and Bars as a symbol of hatred against Af-Ams.

I have enlightened several people, and almost had my butt kicked by close-minded liberal mountain bikers, but my one-man mission will continue. God Bless the South!

Bravo to you sir! Though I was born and raised in SC, I have lived in about 6 states and even lived in England for a year. I always came back home. Being Southern is a state of mind.

One of my favorite sayings is: I'm American by birth, but I am Southern by the Grace of God.

Welcome home sir.

This Michigan yankee won’t call southerners any more racist tha us northerners.

Neither will this NJ Yank who loves almost everything about my patriotic, polite, God-fearing southern brethren and wants to move back to Dixie to retire.

Nevertheless, none of that changes that fact that the war was about slavery and the U.S. winning it was a very good thing.

i'm SHOCKED that anyone today recognizes The Stars & Bars.

FEW people even KNOW what country it represents.

MOST people think it's one of the STATE flags. (FL,AL,GA,MS,LA are the USUAL guesses.)

sorry, but you are DEAD WRONG on the "slavery issue" as a MAIN, much less the ONLY issue, which caused the WBTS.

fwiw, Dr Walter Williams of George Mason University & Dr H. R . Blackerby, the former Chair of History at Tuskegee University, agree that slavery was AT MOST "an irritant", as FEW people (north AND south) were "concerned about the plight of the slaves". they SHOULD have cared;they did NOT!

the TRUTH is that "slavery as a cause of the war" is a KNOWING, sanctimonious, SELF-righteous lie on the part of the REVISIONIST, south-HATING, northeastern, socialist, DAMNyankees.

Then surely you'll be able to point to numerous documents from the secession period that go into greater length about these other issues than they do about slavery, right?

WOW you REALLY like to SHOUT A LOT!

NO I'm NOT wrong about it being THE MAIN reason. BUT I know BETTER than to DEBATE your KIND as I have been DOING SO for a DECADE.

You EMOTE like a LIBERAL.

I'd RESPOND to your comment about DAMNyankees with some comment about BRAIN DEAD REDNECK NEOCONFEDERATES but I LIKE the South and Southerners too much to INSULT them that way.

I looked at some property in old florida years ago. The old man selling the land came out with a walking cane with a great big Confederate flag sticker on the top.

Now this old boy was a definite New Yorker through and through. He caught me eyeballing his sticker and he said "D'you gotta prob'um with dat?"

He went on to explain he thought the Confederate Battle Flag was beautiful, more people ought to fly it, and just how much he loved the South. He defended the colors many times over the years he said. Needless to say, the old boy and I got along just fine!

i have NO time to go do additional research on this subject, (especially since there has been a VAST amount of research posted on this exact subject over the last 4-5 years by numerous people), especially for a south-HATING fool & nitwit like you.

fyi, NOBODY, except the IDIOT fringe of northeastern, REVISIONIST/leftist/socialist academia, believes that slavery was "the ONE cause" of secession/the WBTS;few believe it was even "a MAIN cause";the SMARTER academics believe that slavery was NOT "a major cause of the war".

the ONLY "main cause of the war" was that lincoln CHOSE war rather than PEACE with the new dixie republic. had the TYRANT chosen PEACE, a MILLION lives would not have been lost for NO good reason!

it was ONLY after HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of Americans were killed/wounded & it appeared that GB & France might enter the war on the side of the CSA, that the war became "a crusade against slavery". fyi, FEW people (at least those with a FUNCTIONING brain) believed "lincoln, the TYRANT" as he was a STONE bigot, who FEARED/HATED "persons of colour" (especially AmerIndians,Blacks & Jews.)

NOTHING you post is considered worth reading by most smart FReepers, who have been exposed to your SILLY bilge, FOOLishness & arrogant IGNORANCE.

fyi, "bubba" you're just a JOKE to most people here.

btw, when are you going to reveal WHICH of the "members of the permanently BANNED group" of "former members of the DAMNyankee coven of south-HATERS,lunatics, REVISIONISTS,nitwits, BIGOTS,fools & LEFTISTS" you are??? (fyi, nobody doubts that your were a FORMER member of the "DY coven";opinions are split as to WHICH hater/fool/bigot you are.)

DAMNyankees are HATERS, who are NO better than RACISTS. (fyi, many ARE racists, as well.(

i've lost count of the number of DYs that have made openly bigoted comments about SEVERAL freerepublic.com members who "are other than white" or are of "a religious minority group", including many comments made against me & my skin color = RED.

thankfully, the great majority of northerners are NOT DAMNyankees and/or RACISTS;rather they are just "northerners".

as for my "admittedly odd typing style", if it bothers you, feel free to "scroll on by", as it suits me just fine, thanks.

We are a band of brothers and native to the soil
Fighting for our Liberty, With treasure, blood and toil
And when our rights were threatened, the cry rose near and far
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star!

Hurrah!
Hurrah!
For Southern rights, hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

As long as the Union was faithful to her trust
Like friends and brethren, kind were we, and just
But now, when Northern treachery attempts our rights to mar
We hoist on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

Hurrah!
Hurrah!
For Southern rights, hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

First gallant South Carolina nobly made the stand
Then came Alabama and took her by the hand
Next, quickly Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida
All raised on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

Hurrah!
Hurrah!
For Southern rights, hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

Ye men of valor gather round the banner of the right
Texas and fair Louisiana join us in the fight
Davis, our loved President, and Stephens statesmen are
Now rally round the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

Hurrah!
Hurrah!
For Southern rights, hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

And here's to brave Virginia, the Old Dominion State.
With the young Confederacy at length has linked her fate.
Impelled by her example, now other States prepare
To hoist on high the Bonnie Blue flag that bears a single star.

Hurrah!
Hurrah!
For Southern rights, hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

Then here's to our Confederacy, strong we are and brave,
Like patriots of old we'll fight, our heritage to save.
And rather than submit to shame, to die we would prefer
So cheer for the Bonnie Blue flag that bears a single star.

Hurrah!
Hurrah!
For Southern rights, hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

Then cheer, boys, cheer, raise a joyous shout
For Arkansas and North Carolina now have both gone out;
And let another rousing cheer for Tennessee be given
The single star of the Bonnie Blue Flag has grown to be eleven!

chuckle.

fyi, my next door neighbor in NOLA was from LI,NY (& was a real feminist radical, too).

she was HORRIFIED that BOTH of her daughters "went out for" cheerleader at the local high school, "fell into traditional female roles" AND ended up placing the starry cross flag on their cars.

within a couple of years, she too was "becoming southern", as she figured out that the south was RIGHT.

nothing hard to figure out, i wouldn't think.

i desire/advocate dixie FREEDOM from the (nanny-state loving) LEFTIST north. YES, i'm a secessionist & a scion of one of the "old rebel families".

moreover, i think BOTH sides would be better off & MUCH happier with an international border between the two DIFFERENT regions.

the north could have the "cradle to grave" socialist/baby-MURDERING/big government/imperialist nation that they seem to desire & dixie would be FREE.

any more questions???

Oh plenty my little Jubal Early brownshirt.

Do you fly the U.S. Flag?

As a traitor who advocates the destruction of my country, how do you feel about the troops in Iraq?

Why did your cowardly "old rebel family" surrender if they really felt as strongly as you suggest? Do you honestly think you stand a better chance of overthrowning the United States by force NOW than you did THEN?

it was ONLY after HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of Americans were killed/wounded & it appeared that GB & France might enter the war on the side of the CSA,

What a laugh. Britain and France were never even close to recognizing the CSA, much less entering the war in their behalf.
