The two discussed deploying a force to preserve order and prevent weapon smuggling into the Gaza Strip.
Lieberman also brought up the matters of aerial defense, technological research and development and intelligence cooperation between Israel and NATO.
Lieberman visited Europe this week to hold a round of talks with European leaders. The Yisrael Beitenu chairman stopped in Brussels and Madrid to discuss several matters related to the situation in the Middle East, including Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the Iranian nuclear threat.
On his stop in Madrid, Lieberman met with Former Spanish President José María Aznar, who reportedly told the Israeli minister that "there are leaders in Europe who prefer to leave dealing with Iran to Israel. It's a kind of game.
I believe that Israel is important to Europe. If Israel falls, I am sure that Spain will be next, and after it, the whole western world. I am afraid that Israel will be left alone to face Iran.
After Lieberman gave his condolences for the death of three Spanish UNIFIL soldiers killed in Lebanon earlier this week, he told Aznar, "Radical Islam is in an all-out-war against the free world on two fronts:
The Shiite side, by Iran and its messengers Hizbullah and Hamas; and on the Sunni side there is ongoing assault run by al-Qaeda and its messengers, such as Fath al-Islam in Lebanon, which probably launched the Katyusha rockets on Kirtay Shmona last week.
The free world must unite and consolidate a comprehensive strategy that would give a response to the threat of radical Islam.
Members of the EPP include German Chancellor Angel Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
Lieberman is examining the possibility of having Yisrael Beitenu join the EPP, as part of his declared plans to bring Israel into the European Union.
Putting aside the fact that the EU is an anti-nationalist anti-religious organization bent on joining Europe and the Arab world, to join the EU is to say that Zionism was a mistake, and the land has no meaning.
Lieberman may well get the 21st century equivalent of Roman citizenship, but Israel will get Herod or Vespasian.
I don't understand Israel. Is there no awareness of the Eurabia project? Is there no sense of history? Lieberman was supposed to be a nationalist. Instead, he is another Olmert.

Lieberman wants NATO troops to enforce the peace in Gaza? I hope he’s ready for a long wait. Does he really think that the Europeans, who couldn’t even police up Bosnia, would stick its’ hand in the Gaza meat grinder?
Sure, NATO’s on the way, Joe. They’re sending a brigade of elven archers, an aviation battalion of unicorns, the loch ness monster, and Bigfoot. They should be along any minute.
Well, lets see.
We put armed soldiers from all of the countries that 60 years ago, wiped Jewry off of the face of all Europe and much of Asia and insert them next to the remaining survivors of the continent wide mass murder committed by the fathers of those soldiers, to do ... what?
To finish the job? No thanks.
Keep your so called armies well away from Israel.
And right now, isn't Gaza a pretty nice little kill box? All we'd accomplish by putting in NATO troops is to seed it with hostages. Better to leave it as-is with a wall around it and a cordon off the coast. Let the Hezzies cause trouble there and Israel can pave it.
I want none of this. The Hamas won Gaza fair and square. Let these bast^rds kill each other until the sun goes down. I don’t want to go fight — or pay to fight the Israel battle. Lieberman acts like a Senator from Israel. Do you know how much money we have given Israel? It’s in the damned trillions. When they went in to fight the Shia in Lebanon, they got all their tanks blown up that we paid for and they still don’t have their two soldiers back.
Good luck Joe— you go fight and send your grandkids over there.
How is it that the “Palestineans” who allegedly cannot survive without food deliveries through Israel, are able to smuggle guns, ammo, and ordnance through other channels and routes so easily?
And why is it that the the barbaric residents of Gaza require armed military supervision by NATO to “protect them” from attacking Israel?
Yeah, it's become clear over the last several years that best way to reduce Muslim problems is to put large numbers of them in close proximity, stand to the side, and watch them kill each other off.

No way, next war is bomb them off the face of the earth.
A good idea to read the article before going on an offtopic rant.
It’s not Joe. It is the Israeli pol Avigdor Lieberman.
“Lieberman acts like a Senator from Israel.”
The Lieberman in the article IS an Israeli politician.
“Do you know how much money we have given Israel? Its in the damned trillions.”
A lot less than the US gives Europe buried in our defense budget.
NATO will never do something like that, even the UN won’t do it.
