Im more or less conversing with myself also I suppose. But I believe that 10%+ group of voters behind McCain now are mostly going to migrate to Thompson. That makes up the difference in Iowa. I would be surprised if it does not tighten it up between the two even more.”
Maybe.
But I personally know a lot of sort of establishment GOP types who were with McCain for the same reason that they were with Dole. Many of these sort of liked Romney and his business experience. He was definitely their second choice, so they might go with him. (That said, of course, Romney as second choice was decided before Thompson got in...soooo...you might be right.)
Regardless, I think it is going to come down b/w Romney and Thompson. I think Thompson will pull it out, personally. He’s a different sort of candidate for a very interesting time.

Flame away. He's a patriot, albeit it misguided on certain issues. I'll take the heat for a patriot any day. Uh, nobody criticized his military service on this thread.
What we are criticizing is the fact that he's a media whore who have stabbed the Republican base in the back too many times just to see his mug on the NY Times.
John Murtha served too, you know.

It isn’t about the money as much as the money is what enables you to take your message to the voters.

I thought he WANTED money out of politics....he just didn’t think it would be HIS campaign that the money stayed out of.

The Fredster is shrewd to let the voter stew just simmer on low flame. Julie-Annie will repel more and more conservatives. Romney is struggling to hold onto the voters he already has. And what we all want is someone we all find acceptable and who can win. And there's ol' Fred, just standing there waiting. A very very shrewd non-candidate. He's got his fishing line in the water and he's not overplaying it since he's in no hurry 'cause he's fishing for the Big One.This kind of gushing over the "shrewdness" of your candidate reminds me of the BushBots who used to see genius in every move the president made: "Harriet Miers...a STALKING horse for the real nominee. The man is BRILLIANT!"
Michelle Malkin makes this very biting remark on her website: Which is more annoying: Waiting for the McCain campaign to officially end
or waiting for the Fred campaign to officially begin?
When you are a conservative and you take a shot like that from Michelle, you should see that the delay strategy is not just complete brilliance with no down side.

I wouldn't be so sure to discount Guilliani. I think he will win PA, NJ, NY and CA rather easily and he is currently leading in FL. That is alot of delegates with those states alone. Then he is a likely winner in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. The more liberal states with more moderate Republicans. He has a very good chance of pulling it off.
I am a Fred Thompson supporter myself but if Gulliani does win over the rest of the field, I will support him over the hildebeast.

Do you remember any of your American History lessons? In the same vein I suppose you would support Benedict Arnold? You know, that American Patriot, that sold us out to the Brits? Do you know your American history? Arnold won the battle of Saratoga and was an outstanding general. No Arnold, no America. Arnold was a greater hero and and a greater traitor.
I said I didn't agree with him. I just asked that he be showed a little respect for his service and his mostly conservative record. I am no fan of his because of amnesty and McCain-Feingold, but c'mon. Let him go in peace.

....Murtha betrayed the military and is not worthy of the respect of McCain. McCain’s done-let him go. I am just as upset about McCain-Feingold and Amnesty as anyone on FR, but how about we ignore the grumpy old vet who isn’t quite right. He’s been through hell. Murtha on the other hand, can go to hell.

No, I'm not a Fred supporter.
Michelle Malkin makes this very biting remark on her website: Which is more annoying: Waiting for the McCain campaign to officially end

Hey, I'm supporting Dr. No. You and Michelle are going to be way, way beyond just annoyed. LOL (thinking of you and Michelle's troll-like reactions).
Sometimes, I think FReepers think that supporting their favorite guy means they must trash every other candidate on every single thread. And that makes FR kind of a drag. We were aggressive back in 2000 over Bush (me as much as anyone) but the vitriol didn't quite reach the current peaks. So I like RP but I know he's a very long shot. But not as long as McStain, LOL. Probably RP is a little ahead of Tancredo and Hunter though I like both of them too. And I like Fred Thompson. And Romney too (though I think he has made some avoidable strategy errors for a guy that smart).
I guess I'm too easygoing. The only one I won't vote for is Giuliani. I could even vote for McStain, however unappealing that might be (and I said so on many McStain-bashing threads over the months).
When you are a conservative and you take a shot like that from Michelle, you should see that the delay strategy is not just complete brilliance with no down side.
Oh, yeah? If Michelle is so smart, why doesn't she run for office instead of handing out highhanded and unsolicited political advice? Michelle has her place but it will never be running a campaign or (probably) being a candidate. In truth, her campaign reporting is generally weak. Occasionally, it's clueless or factually wrong. She has a microscopic following and actual influence when compared to Rush (or Mark Levin or even Hannity).
