FYI ping
MIA Concourse F Evacuated
(CBS4) MIAMI Thousands of people have been evacuated from Concourse F at Miami International airports after a possible explosive device was reported to have been discovered byt airport screeners. People are standing in the roadway outside the terminal while the situation is investigated.
Details are sketchy, but traffic to and from the airport apparently has not been halted, as passengers are allowed to go to and from other concourses. From Chopper 4, police could be seen directing buses and vehicle traffic away from the roadways immediately in front of the concourse.
Airlines with service at Concourse F include Aeropostal, Air France, Avianca, Sun Country, Swiss International, Mexicana, and United.
Passengers can be seen, many with luggage, gathered beyond the vehicle lanes at the airport/
There was no immediate word on what affect the shutdown would have on the flights leaving from and arriving at that concourse.

While googling for more info if any, at top I saw a three hour old story on MIA having less security hassles and some about the Wednesday hot tar fire at a private control tower (1 hurt). After I read about it I figure let’s take a look at the security hassles one, wouldn’t that be ironic... poof, gone. No lie.
FNC just reported that “Feds say no device found”..
(The forgotten lesson of ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf’ is that there, eventually, *was* a wolf...)
MIAMI - A Miami International Airport terminal was evacuated early Monday after authorities found what appeared to be an explosive device at a security checkpoint.
"A possible explosive device showed up in an X-ray machine at the checkpoint," airport spokesman Greg Chin said. He said the Miami-Dade bomb squad was investigating and had no further information.
Passengers were evacuated from Terminal F, which serves United Airlines domestic and international flights.
Concourse F at Miami International Airport was being evacuated this morning, and the bomb squad was being called to the scene to investigate a report of a possible explosive device. Hundreds of people reportedly were removed from the concourse.
The evacuation began shortly after 6 a.m., according to early reports.
Thanks for the thread, Prisoner6. I had people calling in and asking me about this today.
Why do people seem to always come to me for information? LOL!...
Good info. Thanks.
And also:
VIP Clubs MIA has various airline-operated VIP clubs. In addition to these, the airport also has three MDAD-operated Club America VIP clubs that allow airlines that do not have a dedicated club, to serve their passengers. Club amenities and services include: baggage holding area; business center with private work stations, fax, copier, internet access, cable television entertainment, flight information monitors, newspapers, magazines, telephones (free local calls), showers, full complimentary beverages. Club America locations are E Lobby, second level; F Lobby, second level; and at the end of Concourse F, third level. For additional information, click here, or call 305-874-7474.
Courtesy credit to my pal here for pointing this out. :)
That's not very reassuring . . .
Ever think the Feds could be laying on some deception in something close to: “Let’s not let the buz lose money and wreck the economy.”?

(Hmmm, nothing on the device)
I was in the car this morning and heard on all places the Err America station (Jim Defedi Show) that it turned out to be an urn with ashes in which a passenger was taking home to Latin America. Given the source, I don’t know if it is true.
I don’t think they’d evacuate a terminal over ‘just’ an urn. But, I’m interested in hearing more on this. Thanks.
Actually, you were right! Who would have thought...hmmm.
Thanks for the heads up..

I hope this isn't another one of those "where did it go?" scenarios, where the screener sees something suspicious, doesn't react immediately, and the "item" is lost in the crowd, necessitating shutting down the whole terminal.
Thanks ... heard on news this AM.
Well I guess a false positive is better than a false negative...
