July 14, 2007 -- The Upper East Side's beloved hawk, Pale Male, was the target of a cruel attack yesterday when a construction worker pummeled him with rocks - and now bird lovers are fearing for Pale Male's life.
The famous fowl was struck and likely wounded with at least one thrown object in an incident that one steamed cop called "a crime against nature."
Witnesses said the bird was perched on a piece of masonry on an upper floor of 1040 Fifth Avenue at E. 85th St. at 3 p.m. when the worker, standing on the roof above, started chucking rocks at him.

Yep, he really has quite an interesting story which I first learned of on either PBS or NGC...not certain. But yes, his saga is fascinating.
The capital of the world. If you can make there, you can make anywhere as the famous “NY, NY” song goes. Pale Male wanted to go where the action is.
Sure does, so I am not suprised he acted like a turkey.

At one point several years back, Liza Minelli got involved, and people evoked the Migratory Bird Act and other federal laws to stop people from harassing the raptor and his nest.
Famous bird, interesting interactions between people.
I would not wish to be in the construction guy’s Timberlands; so many people know about and care for this urban hawk.
My take on it is anything that eats pigeons and rats is my friend and deserves respect.
And according to the stats...follow the abuse trail and you will find he is also a wife beater and child abuser. People who hurt animals MOST OFTEN abuse humans as well!
One reason to nail this jerk...and then interview anyone he has been near, family, children etc.
Ok, so the guy’s an idiot, but the article is full of hysteria.
Jerk drops very small rock from what appears to be a few feet above bird. Rock hits bird and bird looks up to see what happened. Bird does not appear to be “wounded” and was not disturbed enough even to fly away. Rock wasn’t “thrown”, bird is not injured.

Hmmmmmm I have seen pea gravel used for roofing but good rockin material like a golf ball size rock doesn’t seem like it would be on a high rise in NYC.......

ALL living things deserve respect and none abuse.
I’ve been up on commercial roofs before, that used rock that size for ballast. I want to say it was on thick one-piece rubber membrane type flat roofs, and not on the old-school built-up hot tar and felt flat roofs.
I am educated on that issue then.......we just used smaller pea gravel that was rolled into and spread on the hot tar roofs way back when I had the tough job roofers do.
