"Tuned him up" real good. I doubt it was one punch. The six witnesses could tell you, but the reporter thought not to ask them.
Perhap he viewed the cop as something of a 'leader' of the group. Perhaps the cop had been saying more to him than the others.
Of course, anything's a possibility since the guy's BAC was at a 0.31 level. There's not much rational thought going on at that point.
Sounds like a case of “what goes around comes around”.
How many folks has the cop locked up in the past for defending themselves?
Cops around where I live clearly believe that there are laws for them, and other laws for the rest of us.
No sympathy here.
I would think a Chicago cop would be able to recognize that the guy was wasted. Beating on a drunk 20-year-old, causing two brain bleeds, a broken nose, a broken jaw ... airlifted to a hospital ... I'd say a tad excessive.
Did I say it wasn't excessive?
You asked why the guy went after the cop and I proposed a couple of possible reasons. Nothing more, nothing less.
just to let you know secondcitycop.blogspot.com has posted the official judge’s ruling and findings of “fact”, actual facts regarding this case. officer mette was found to have only hit the offender once and then the offender “Gothard” hit his head on the cement. everything in the abc7chicago report as well as the chicago tribune column was correct. it goes both ways, think before you speak.
I tried to go to Iowa last week and it was closed.
“Canceled due to lack of interest”.
first of all, you can’t know the “other side” of the story cause our buddy Jake was to piss drunk to even know what was going on. Second of all no one has mentioned that the Judge has a close personal relationship with the Gothard family-coincidence I don’t think so. Mike Mette is an awesome guy and takes his job seriously, not only is he a Chicago police office but so is his father and he knows the ways of the law. If Mike was to just sit there and take it from this drunk a—, who know what could have happened to him or anyone else in that group of people. The reason he may or may not have had brain bleeds is because his blood alcohol level was .31 which is on the verge of death to begin with. And if he was sooo injured how was he able to compete on the golf team with in a week of being injured, hmmmm.... he was putting up record numbers at that time as well, doesn’t sound like he is to injured to me..Read more into this story before you go and post you opinion on what happened
Your right, We will never get Jake side of the story since he was knocked unconscious. Based on his injuries he could have been stomped on by the Mette brothers. I find it ironic Mr. Mette could have been the arresting officer it this happen on his turf. He knows the laws or should have known the laws for the consequence of his actions. For that I don't feel sorry for Mr. Mette. He is sworn to uphold the laws not pick and choose as he sees fit. If you don't like the law then change it or move to Texas where this would have never made trial.
I’d really like to see the doctor’s report on his injuries, i would think that if his injuries were so severe that he wouldn’t be up and playing some of his best golf games within a week or two. You are correct that he does know the laws and should have done something more than just try and walk away twice, however he is only human and what was he to do, get punched and beat up instead? Remember, the kid went after him, it wasn’t like he was at the kids house and beat him up, the drunk followed them home. I do believe that he does deserve some sort of punishment, but 5 years in prision, i don’t think so. His life is going to be ruined if that happens, all for protecting himself against someone who should have been arrested for being drunk in public or for disturbing the peace. I don’t know how you would feel if you were in his shoes but i can imagine you would be just as unhappy with the outcome as I am. Until you know all the facts of this case I don’t think you should be posting your biased opinion. I do think Texas has it right with being able to protect your self on your own property, I wouldn’t want to be thrown in jail for someone breaking into my house and causing harm to them for protecting what is mine. You must be related to that “poor little rich kid” to back up such a rediculous outcome!
