By defininition, a “trophy husband” is the husband of a “trophy wife.” She didn’t set out to be the trophy wife of a 7-11 clerk.
Shortly after the election in which Bill Clinton was named President-elect, Bill & Hillary were in the car heading from Arkansas to Washington, DC to take up residence.
Before leaving town, they stopped at the local gas station to fill up the tank.
There, working at the gas station was Billy Bob, one of Hillary’s high school classmates, whom she had gone to a school dance with one time.
Bill said, “Gee, Hillary, just think. If you had married Billy Bob, you’d be a pump jockey’s wife now.”
Hillary replied, “No, Bill, if I’d married Billy Bob, you’d be a pump jockey and Billy Bob would be the next president of the United States.”
