The part I object to is the part about the children. The adults can do what they like, but just don’t involve the children.
I generally agree with you, but when I read the transcript of the actual press conference, Mr. Romney's approach seems different from what the MassResistance kooks are trying to portray. Instead of pushing for the rights of homosexuals to have children, Mr. Romney seems to be saying that homosexuals are going to end up having children one way or another. When they do, there will be some rights for them as for any parent, but there must also be some recognition of responsibilities. Children who grow up in those homes will develop attachments to both partners, and if there is a split, the law should recognize those attachments both for the sake of the partners but more importantly for the sake of the children.
The whole situation is a mess, and I wish we didn't have children in those individual situations. I think Mr. Romney is trying to find a solution that will be practical. Our society is not at a place where we can just remove children from homosexual homes. Mr. Romney seems to recognize this fact and is looking to make the best of a bad situation.
