McCain sputters as front-runner

Sen. John McCain's second bid for the White House, unlike his 2000 “maverick” candidacy, began to fail from the moment he became the perceived front-runner, analysts say.

The implosion of the Arizona Republican's campaign — first the firing most of his campaign staff two weeks ago because he could no longer pay them and then booting his two top campaign bosses on Monday — was caused more by issues than by the campaign"s overspending, activists say.

“McCain's fall was inevitable, since he seemed intent on alienating base GOP activists and donors with his high-profile support of amnesty for criminal aliens. I know I am not the only party leader who has been scratching his head,” said Jon Fleischman, the elected vice chairman of the Southern California Republican Party.

Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado, a fellow Republican presidential hopeful, this week said Mr. McCain's support of a Senate bill that amounted to amnesty for illegal aliens put the final nail in the McCain campaign coffin.

As usual, the MSM has it all wrong. They are blaming his support of the Iraq War for his downturn when actually it was his support of the amnesty bill that made Republicans turn against him.

When has McCain ever been the “front runner” except in his own ego and the dreams of his liberal media friends? If your own party hates you its not a good thing.

The guy loses his cool in public as often if not more so than Howard Dean, co-sponsors the most egregious attack on the First Amendment in history, sucks up to congress dimlibs, and promotes another amnesty bill. What’s with this chump, and why did he think he had a decent chance to get elected president, given his shooting himself in his foot so many times? At least Bush waited until he was a lame duck to start his serial screwups.

McCain/Feingold First Amendment Muzzle Bill + McCain/Kennedy Shamnesty Bill = No Clue/No Chance for a McCain Presidential Bid.

He’s toast, it’s a wrap, the fat lady has sung, mama put the coffee on, because you’re boy is coming home! See ya sucker......

McCain sputters as front-runner

Polls from McLame's fitness club do not count.

Any Republican who campaigns for serious border and immigration control will be a sure winner. The reverse is also true.

The headline should be: MSM endorsed Republican front runner, before he is eviscerated in the general election in favor of the preferred socialist candidate.

McCain was never the frontrunner.

Well, he was at Intrade in 2006, and into 2007. He was trading at over 50%, which I could never figure out. We all could have made a bundle shorting him.

Thanks for putting that graph back up for us. Our government is not trusted and non-responsive to what we ask them to do unless we shut down their phones. Let’s have fun shutting down the Capitol phones some more! Bush has a short period of time to learn what American Citizens want.

You are right in that "Immigration" was the final nail in McLame's coffin. But he was in sharp decline before this since about the first of the year. Interestingly, he was rallying back before he got into bed with Teddy and the La Raza crowd.

McInsane is toast, fortunately, and is just a percentage point or two above Gingrich.

Current Presidential breakout is here;

INTRADE

Giuliani - 37.7
Thompson - 33.3
Romney - 16.1
McCain - 4.1
Gingrich - 2.5

Hillary - 43.7
Obama - 38.1
Gore - 6.1
Edwards - 5.2

McC probably thought at his 70+ percent strength in AZ made him invincible. AZ has never produced a president; of course, it hasn’t been a state for quite a century yet.
