More counterfeit toothpaste found in Italy
ROME, July 12 (UPI) -- More tubes of counterfeit toothpaste were seized Thursday in Italy.
Police in Naples found more than 200 tubes in discount shops, Ansa, the Italian news agency, reported. In one shop, 75 tubes were found after a man reported that his throat and gums became inflamed after he used toothpaste he bought there.
Thousands of tubes of toothpaste, most of it counterfeiting the Colgate brand name, have been seized since Saturday. Investigators said harmful substances have been found, but did not release details.
Counterfeit toothpaste has also been seized in Spain. GlaxoSmithKline Thursday warned that counterfeits of its Sensodyne toothpaste contaminated with diethylene glycol are on sale in Britain.
Authorities warned Italians to be careful in their purchases. Counterfeit labels are usually in foreign languages and often contain misspellings, they said.
Colgate said in a statement that its genuine toothpaste sold in Italy must include Italian product descriptions on the label and mention Colgate-Palmolive Italian.

Good plan. Stoopid americans will fall for this one. It gets China and the stoopid american companies that have their toothpaste made in China off of the hook!
I don't believe a word of it.
There is money in countefeiting toothpaste? The expensive part has to be getting the stuff in the tube and distributing it. The junk in the tube really has to be dirt cheap. Maybe it is one of those deals where you loose on each transaction, but make up for it in volume.
I don't use Colgate myself so I'm not terribly concerned, though I feel for this guy - cleaning your teeth to stay healthy and get an inflamed throat for your trouble.
At least he didn't die from it like those folks in Panama that went to the hospital only to die from Chinese made medicine that very day.
Ping.
