NCAA can't really take OU's wins away
Fox Sports ^ | 12 July 2007 | Pete Fiutak

You can't put the genie back in the bottle.

So according to the NCAA, Oklahoma didn't win any games in 2005 because of the mortal sins of former quarterback Rhett Bomar, who (gasp!) took a few dollars for basically being the Oklahoma quarterback, and lineman J.D. Quinn who (oh heavens!) also got some coin for a no-show gig at a car dealership.

The NCAA has you brainwashed in thinking that what these guys did was morally wrong in some way, but that's a discussion for another time. The NCAA forced OU to forfeit all eight of its wins from 2005, and now the can of worms is open wide as far as what should come next. As you read this, the words "Reggie" and "Bush" are probably all over LSU and Oklahoma message boards.

It's all silly. I don't care that the wins don't technically count. You don't care that the wins don't technically count. Anyone with a brain doesn't care that the wins don't technically count. Those games happened, and that can't be changed.

Didn’t UT name their stadium after an Okie.

I thought so and believe by golly that he was even on the Sooner football team at one time.

So sad that it took an Okie to put El Universidad Texas on the map.

If that's the case, then I want our 1984 SEC Title back!

And wasn't it in SOS's first year as coach they won the SEC but didn't get to keep that one either because of "sanctions?" 1990?

Maybe. But I have heard a lot of people proclaim that the 84 team (which was Kerwin Bell’s Freshman year), may still be the most talented Gator team ever. And they would have crushed “National Champion” BYU had they played.

Yeah, I’ve heard that.

BYU was running that dink and dunk offense even back then, if I recall correctly.

“Seriously, are you a fact twisting Democrat?”

Do you post this insult to everyone on this board or just me?

I don’t think anyone really knows how much money was involved. Since the fans and students at OU seem to have turned into some real *turds* lately, they deserve what they get.

Number of players from Texas on OU's roster in 2006 - 55
Number of players from Oklahoma on UT's roster in 2006 - 0

Seems to me you couldn't even field a team without all of UT's rejects...

No, I did not think so.

Only 55 players went North to OU?

I would have thought that more would have chosen a good education in Soonerville over the yuppie life style of Austin.

Grrrrrrr, that strikes a huge nerve inside of me, as a U of Utah fan. A lot of us in the old WAC/current MWC have never heard the end of it from by?U fans about their "Championship".

Nah, I'd even give a kid the benefit of the doubt on picking OU over those teams...

You honestly think these kids pick OU for the education? Oh please, likely has more to do with the no-show jobs at local car dealerships... Face it, DKR got older and wiser, the kids are just still young and dumb.

Comment:

Now you have gone and caused me to ROTFLMAO.

You mean like edakatshun.

You may be on to something.

Back in the early 70’s I bought a new Thuynderbird and F150 pickup from Steve Davis the former OU Quarterback.

Maybe it is just a family thing for Quarterbacks.

“The bottom line is that if the NCAA wants you then they’ll get you. The collolary to this is that if the NCAA does not want you (e.g. USC, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Ohio State) then the school can do anything it wants and no significant punishment will come.”

Damn right. And I’m saying this as a fan of two schools that are beneficiaries. I think the rules ought to be evenhandedly applied; when it comes to those and a few other schools, the rules are routinely self-policed at best.
