Most of the economic weakness of America could be cured by the abandonment of the Stupid Tax [aka the income tax] in favor of a retail sales tax.
Taxes have very little to do with currency strength, the dollar is weak because both domestically and globally it is heavily leveraged against relatively low interest rates.
Also note that a weak dollar is favorable for tourism and it provokes demand for American goods abroad so it is not necessarily a bad thing.
