Banning fast cars is just envy disguised as concern for the earth.

If one of the more extreme responses to global warming comes true, driving a sports car anywhere but on a racetrack might be relegated to history's dustbin.

Fast, powerful cars within a few years may be outlawed in Europe, an idea that has been raised ostensibly because Ferraris and Porsches produce too much carbon dioxide. For those who abhor sports cars as vulgar symbols of affluence (along with vacation homes, furs and fancy jewelry), such a ban could be a two-fer: Saving the planet while cutting economic inequality.

Who are these people anyway who decide on behalf of everyone what car is proper to drive? In the U.S. they're members of Congress, which is considering fuel-efficiency standards that will affect vehicle size. In Europe, it's the ministers and parliamentarians of the European Union, which wants to limit how much CO2 cars can emit as a proxy for a fuel- consumption standard.

The first car to leave the Maranello factory in 1947 was a red, V12-engined Barchetta. From the beginning it was designed as a racing car and it went on to win at its second outing in the Grand Prix of Rome. Alongside the racing cars, development continued apace for a road-going version. This is how the 166 MM - the first Ferrari to win the Le Mans 24 Hours and also see use as a high-performance, road-going two-seater - was created. The history of the V12 front-engine Ferraris started here.

On the other hand, most owners of those cars are arrested development types who actually have anger issue problems with others who choose --- say --- a Prius

Can't afford anything better than a priaps can you?

You see alot of people that buy fast sports cars drive them at the racetrack in thousands of driver ed car club events nationwide. Its nobodys business what someone wants to drive. If they can afford it, fine. Driving in these events makes them much better drivers too, something many of the drivers out there could use. Then they would not be affraid of a car that went 150 to 180mph.
This is just another environazi power trip.

Ban private jet use!

That would shake the money right out of the Lib/Socialist machine. Flying with commoners, perish the thought.

You can't gear them to reduce top speed without reducing fuel economy. If you take any given engine, and gear it so that the final gear won't send the car above the speed limit at maximum RPM, you'd be in a situation where, to run at highway speed limit, you'd be running the engine at near max RPM. This is extremely bad for fuel economy, not to mention it increases wear on the components.

DING DING DING - you win the cookie :-)

I just added a K&N Cold Air Intake to my O7 Mustang. The first thing the hand-wringers and envirowhiners will see is that I added 18-24 HP to my already "TOO POWERFUL" engine. But they will cover thier ears when I mention that my hwy mileage went from 24.8 MPG to 28.6 MPG.

They can't seem to understand that with a mid to high performance engine - more power = BETTER GAS MILEAGE

Although I have to admit the much improved throttle response, accelleration suction sound and the new deeper growl have thier attraction too ;-)

Europe needs to rise up and fight for its freedom. What a pathetic mass of cancer.

What you are missing is that he deems your driving over the speed limit to be reckless. And should not be allowed.

It's tough to find an ugly Ferrari. I was posting the red Barchetta as an allusion to Rush's (prophetic?) song.

= )

Being a safe driver, you are in the minority as oppose to the number of less than 30 year olds I see driving around town and neighborhoods like they are in Le Mans.

The Rush song Red Barchetta was inspired by a short story with a similar theme by the title, IIRC, of something like “A Sunday drive in the country”. I’m sure someone here will know. Or I could just look it up - ah, here we are, it was called “A Nice Morning Drive” by Richard S. Foster.

What he's missing is that there are uses for performance cars that have nothing to do with either the speed limit or public roads. What he's also missing is the fact that there are laws in place to deal with speeding and other forms of unsafe driving that have nothing to do with speed.

What I'm missing is an explanation for why anyone who considers himself a conservative would think his opinion on necessary horsepower should have any bearing on what other people drive.

The Greens ARE the Reds

living in "blue" states. They've called themselves communists, socialists, liberals, then progressives, switching as each hijacked word and symbolic color absorbs too much baggage. The power of the leftist MSM was demonstrated by their recent hijacking of the good color blue which has a long tradition over the world as symbolizing conservative, loyal, and true.

If they are concerned about speed, why are performance motorcycles not included in the same breath? They can have more acceleration and top speed. It's probably because they are not signs of wealth.

People driving do envy those going faster and often try to plug the fast lane. Speed envy is the initiating cause of most road rage.

Why aren't they targeting LIMOUSINES???

Because they ride in them, naturally.... Limos typically have V-10 or V-12 engines. Bigger than most sport cars.

Don't expect those will ever be banned... except perhaps for you and I to have for weddings and proms. They could still pass laws against that, of course.

Al Gore's own kids tool around in Maseratis while drinking, speeding, tokin' on joints and poppin' pills.

Here's a video of his kids taking off from jail in a Maserati Quattroporte - a car that burns more fuel than an H3 Hummer.

"Gore-Bull" warming indeed!

Click on any of the images below to see the video.

Al Bore invented the Internet.

Putfile Version (Higher quality)

Here's Another video showing what an imbecile Al Bore is.

The moonbats have been voting down the first video "Inconvenient Hypocrisy", be sure to vote it back up to the top of the heap of videos about Al Bore.

Good anti-Global Warming video that picks apart Gore's stupid film.

Or one final occasion. Little Richard said it best back in the 50s when he said the only way a black man could ride in a cadillac was at his funeral.

Sports cars won’t disappear, they just won’t be available to us common slobs. The Hollywood elites, Al Gore’s kids and members of Congress will still have such vehicles when the rest of us are forced to walk, take the bus or ride bicycles in the name of saving the planet.
