'Chicago Sun-Times' Looks to Redefine Itself as 'Liberal, Working-Class' Paper

CHICAGO The Chicago Sun-Times is turning left.

The tabloid that shifted toward political conservatism under the brief ownership of Rupert Murdoch more than two decades ago now says that it is "rethinking our stance on several issues, including the most pressing issue facing Americans today: Bush's war in Iraq."

I must have missed its conservative phase.

Had a state supervisor once who told me the Sun-Times was for "us black folks. Ya'll got the Tribune."

The Chicago Sun-Times is turning left.

There are precious few newspapers in this country that could turn farther left than they already are.

This assumes that people who “work” consider themselves to be a “class”, that is to say in Marxist-speak the “working class” who are “oppressed” by the “upper class” (like rich folks who own newspapers).

Putting aside how we have allowed Marxists-at-heart to balkanize society in ways that put people at odds in in strife with each other, the very premise of this redefinition pivots around a clear vision of what kind of coverage a sufficiently large population of customers want to read.

The left loves to scold the rest of us about “sustainability” when it comes to the environment, yet if anything fails the test of business sustainability, it is the old-line, increasingly open leftist Main Stream Media. The “sustainability” of their business model is being called into question by changes in society, technology, and in the rise of “sustainable” alternatives like talk radio.

One factor the Sun-Times may have not taken into account is that young people get their news from a lot of places but distinctly not from the daily dead-tree edition of anything.

Like so many public school teachers frantically trying any new fad in vain attempts to teach a subject, we will see many newspapers recasting and redefining themselves. The net result in each attempt will be to consume capital from their finite assets, and in each turn they will get smaller and have less influence on the very “classes” of society they hope to manipulate or pander to.

The Dinosaur Media Death Watch continues.

Alright, who wants to start the “Death Watch” for this paper?

18 months maybe?

There is not, and has not been, a “conservative” paper in Chicago since at least the time of the demise of the Daily News.

And the Daily News was not all that conservative. They simply presented the news with a little less bias.

But they had the bad judgment to be an afternoon paper.

“Ring of Fire”

The Sun Is A Liberal Thing
And It Makes A Fiery Ring
Funded By Commie Liars
The Sun Fell Into A Ring Of Fire

CHORUS:
The Sun Fell Into A Burning Ring Of Fire
Stock Went Down, Down, Down
And The Debt Went Higher

And It Burns, Burns, Burns
The Ring Of Fire
The Ring Of Fire

The Sun Fell Into A Burning Ring Of Fire
Stock Went Down, Down, Down
And The Debt Went Higher

And It Burns, Burns, Burns
The Ring Of Fire
The Ring Of Fire

The Taste Of Death Is Sweet
As The Times Met Its Defeat
Ads Fell Fast By A Commie Country Mile
Oh, But The Libs Went Wild

CHORUS
The Sun Fell Into A Burning Ring Of Fire
Stock Went Down, Down, Down
And The Debt Went Higher

And It Burns, Burns, Burns
The Ring Of Fire
The Ring Of Fire

The Sun Fell Into A Burning Ring Of Fire
Stock Went Down, Down, Down
And The Debt Went Higher

And It Burns, Burns, Burns
The Ring Of Fire
The Ring Of Fire

And It Burns, Burns, Burns

The Ring Of Fire

The Ring Of Fire

The Ring Of Fire

Bush’s war in Iraq is the most important issue facing us?

I guess the MSM is responsible for that. I guess people need another good event like 9/11 to convince them otherwise, or maybe a nice inflation or such.

Which is it SomeTimes? Liberal or Working Class? Lieberals are unemployed people who like to think too much and don’t contribute anything meaningful to society. Working Class people pay taxes that Lieberals impose to support the Lieberals.

Bush’s war in Iraq is the most important issue facing us?

My sentiments exactly.

For me personally, the illegal immigrant invastion (amnesty bill) is THE most important issue facing me, my children, and my childrens' children.

After all, alQaeda is NOT invading the US across the Delaware River into my humble community. They are not being elected to town councils across America, and thus trying to change voting laws and business rules.

Our military is way too powerful, and could stop any small group of Islamonut job enemies who we spot heading our way.

But the hoardes of illegals from Central and South America are trying to become unstoppable. They are changing the American culture into a liberal multi cultural gobbly gook, and many seek to change state boundaries and the US Constitution.

to me, THAT is a much more real threat than alQaeda taking over the United States.

In other words, it's important, but Iraq is not the "most important" issue threatening me and my family.

‘Chicago Sun-Times’ Looks to Redefine Itself as ‘Liberal, Working-Class’ Paper

Yeha, this makes no sense at all - the last thing needed or wanted from anywhere in MSM is yet another liberal rag.

The Sun-Times says it’s to become a voice for the ‘Liberal Working class’...sorta like a voice for the ‘befuddled and focused’ folks, I suppose.
