This happens every several years in PA, DE, MD, VA. Strict quarantine rules are followed so as not to spread the virus between farms. It is thought to be carried via wild birds flying overhead and infecting one or several flocks.
Of course, this un-newsworthy item (except for farmers) will only add fear to the average person viewing Fox.

Not to worry - the company will make up any shortage of Turkeys with imports from China!

The antibody test is not highly specific for the Avian Influenza strain and other strains will show positive for Avian Influenza if they are close enough. This is just a precaution and is a fairly common occurrence.

Great. Just another reason to raise the price of Turkey, and it ain’t even close to Thanksgiving.

This thread is almost 2 weeks old, but since you didn't post on it, I thought I'd ping you to it. It's officially on our shores! I'm going to stock up on turkeys and chickens. If it spreads across America like it has in Europe and Asia, I want to have some in my freezer while I can still get it.

Thank you for the ping. I’d read elsewhere here on FR about the Virginia low path H5N1 outbreak, and I agree, it’s a good idea to stock up on what you are going to want to eat.
