This is a link to a television feature (VIDEO) higlighting some Microsoft technology. It looks pretty cool.
Here's the link again.

“Bi-manual, multi-point, and multi-user interactions on a graphical display surface”
If I recall correctly, the hardware is home-brewed and the software is Linux running on a Mac.
I think you mean no more mouses, right? You would still need a keyboard of some sort for text input. Voice recognition still sucks to be used over a keyboard.
New demo reel here...

I WANT ONE !!!.
So, if I want to use it to write a novel, all the words in the English language are on the screen and I just have to drag them where I want them?
No, thanks. I’ll take a keyboard. “Sorry, buddy, there will be NO keyboard interface on our new computer. You are screwed.”
I don’t want to talk to the thing, either. It makes it rough when there are other people around.
What’s the space key for? Rrrrrrr! is all one word.
“So, if I want to use it to write a novel, all the words in the English language are on the screen and I just have to drag them where I want them?”
Oh my, no.
That would take up too much disc space and besides, new words are added to vocabulary every day.
No, you will have a screen with all the letters in both their upper and lower case, a space, and some punctuation. You’d drag the novel down one character at a time.
Of course, you may think it’s a little slow, but Stephen Hawkings says it’s faster than a blow tube.
I luv that.

LOL! That’s fantastic!
PING!
Microsoft would be well advised to keep all their customers’ fingers occupied at all times.

Touch screens! Wow, Microsoft, you’re sure ahead of the times....
This is, anyhow, not so much effective for elimination of the keyboard as elimination of the mouse. Trying to type on a two dimensional screen “keyboard” will always be a frustrating, non-ergonomic experience.
LOL
The whole interface seems to be more of a novelty than anything else. I have a hard time picturing getting actual work done on one of those things.
