honestly, I am no McCain fan, but I have never seen any evidence that his conduct in Vietnam and as a POW was anything but honorable....
he recieved unique attentions because his grandfather and his father were both full Admirals, and his father was the CinC Pacific Command of the US Navy during much of the Vietnam War. To the best of my knowledge, because of this the NVA was willing to exchange him in return for something at the time of his capture but McCain refused to be paroled ahead of anyone captured before him. He served like 4 years in a POW camp when there was a possibility that he could have gotten out after a few months.
now, as a politician I dislike the man. He tries to pander to everyone for votes and recognition— conservatives, liberals, moderates and the news media all at once. But it was in Washington, not Vietnam, that he first sold out
