McCain Feingold is enough to disqualify Thompson in my opinion. It shows that Fred Thompson disregarded his SWORN OATH to Protect and Defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

Thompson had just dealt with the investigations into illegal campaign contributions. He'd heard the testimony about bags of cash in the White House and Buddhist nuns turning over money to Algore. He was sick and tired of the big money taking politics out of the hands of the individual voter. THAT was his impetus for supporting McCain Feingold, and he didn't actually support ALL of its provisions.

His idea on political fundraising is to raise the amount that individuals can give to a much larger figure, then make public the names of EVERYONE who donates to a politician, even, I believe, individuals who have contributed as part of a group. He thinks that voters need to know just who is putting their money behind which candidates.

That’s just a lot of spin. The fact is he supported and voted for a bill which went against his sworn oath of office. I don’t vote for anyone who breaks their oath to Protect and Defend the Constitution of the United States of America.
