>Whenever I see hit pieces like this on Fred Thompson, I know the left is running scared. Articles like this strengthen my resolve to support Thompson.<
LOL! Richard A. Viguerie is a conservative writer, tied to conservative organizations! Just Google his name, and actually-read-what-it-says about him.
This is not a hit piece. This is the TRUTH staring you in the face. Don’t prove that a Fredhead is a deadhead. Wake up! FTD is no conservative. Thompson’s Federalism is actually Frederalism, his own brand of moderate. He is part of the Establishment from head to toe.
Wrong. I pointed out a whopper in post #25. The article is nothing but sweeping generalities coupled with cherry-picked votes that ignore Fred's larger conservative voting record.
I’m far from a RINO....
Abortion existed before Roe vs. Wade and it will exist after it’s reversed, no matter what the states decide.
The only time abortion will end is when the American people decide to life is worth more than money....
Viguerie isn’t a “conservative,” he’s more of an alarmist, Populist right-wing Perotista, with a SoCon streak, who also said Reagan was a mushy moderate who stabbed us in the back.
Hardly. Fred simply resists the notion that the federal government is the means to accomplish an agenda, be it right or left wing.
We need more of that nowadays.
‘Fred lost me when he started hiring Bushs old cronies.’
If thats your standard, you should just go fishing on election day. There has always been ‘holdovers’ from administration to administration, dem and GOP alike, and most of the time when one takes over from the other, many remain.
All you get when you hire ‘beyond DC’ is Jimmy Carter’s incompetency.
No thanks. Been there, done that.
Well said. Forcing it down the throats of people whose hearts and minds aren’t yet in it won’t do any good, and in fact, will make things worse.
It would take more than just that (guranteed funding, strict enforcement, etc.) but doing something like that and a few other things would bring me around.
I’m still bothered by the whole CFR thing but he has since said that it was a mistake to vote for that particular legislation so I’m willing to move past that.
Duncan Hunter will not be the GOP nominee in 2008.
There’s a HUGE difference between a “conservative” and a “libertarian”.
Libertarians tried for years to gather enough strength to have a pary of their own. When they failed, they defaulted to the Republican Party. But they are very must a small fringe element of both the party and the nation.
Hence, Ron Paul 2% - Duncan Hunter 1%....
Holdovers don’t bother me as long as it’s the right people.
His particular holdovers are a concern to me.
whom else are we to choose Its shameful that the gop puts us in this position.
We put ourselves in ‘this position’.
If anyone ever smoked pot sometime in the last half CENTURY, the GOP base won’t vote for them.
If the candidate has a divorce, or two, no once again.
If they dare to question the pro lifers, again no.
If they don’t go to Church each and every Sunday, again nope.
We’ve allowed the MSM to play ‘gotcha’ on ridiculous events from decades ago (see Romney’s dog in 1983 for a GREAT EXAMPLE of what I’m saying) and then whine when we get milk toast candidates?
Sheesh. We get the candidate we deserve, and once in a great while a good one (Reagan) slips in.
Fred Thompson on Abortion
Roe v. Wade was bad law and bad science. (Jun 2007)
Appoint strict constructionist judges. (Jun 2007)
Has never been pro-choice despite 1994 news reports. (Jun 2007)
Voted YES on maintaining ban on Military Base Abortions. (Jun 2000)
Voted YES on banning partial birth abortions. (Oct 1999)
Voted YES on banning human cloning. (Feb 1998)
‘Duncan Hunter probably cannot win
Who knows? ‘
Anyone that pays attention and is the least bit objective about politics on the national level.
Its not his positions. Its his complete and total lack of charisma, which like it or not plays a big role in who wins.
Since that is all they got on FT, he come out looking good.
Thank you, Dick Bachert. I love you and your group. We did not realize we had so many folks working for us. We all felt so very alone and isolated.
No, don’t worry about the Chicoms. They are not entrenched here as it is thought.
Listen to this: The Panamanians built a bridge across the canal at Culebra Cut about three years ago. The whole thing is falling apart. And they are going to build a third locks?
The winner for the third locks project is no other than the Panamanian administrator of the Canal. His company (under another CEO in name only) offered the lowest bid and won. The newspapers announced it this morning.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
"When I was in the Senate a lot of people would come to see me and it usually would have to do with business matters or financial matters, or something pertaining to their financial welfare. When you came to see me," Thompson said to the crowd of pro-life activists, "I always knew it was about something much more important than that, the most important thing of all in this world, and that is life."
Fred Thompson
‘Anyone who thinks Thomspson is a movement conservative is going to be disappointed.’
Conservatives are a minority within the GOP. Wishing for one that meets the Bill Buckley ‘standard’ (if you can decipher his brand of english....) is a waste of time.
“I think most of us understand that he is a moderate conservative ... which puts him to the left of Hunter, Tancredo, and company ... but to the right of Rudy, McCain, and Romney. And probably somewhat to the right of Dubya.”
My view as well, so far, of Fred Thompson.
“The calculation that many conservatives are making is that a likable, electable nominee who is 80% conservative ... but has a penchant for communicating common sense conservatism to Joe Citizen ... is better than a 100% guy who who demonstrates little or no appeal to non-ideological voters and centrists.”
Exactly. The ‘hardcore’ conservatives are much like the Brits of the 19th century. “They’d rather lose a war than admit the mistake...”
Given events around the world, we can’t risk a Democrat as President.
Period.
Thank You for that explanation....I appreciate it.
I’m afraid that I wear a lot more tinfoil than is allowed here, so I usually keep my mouth shut about this issue.
‘Problem is, when it comes to serious folks who know how to run a campaign, the pickings are pretty darned slim. Im not going to fault the guy for hiring a couple of people who worked for Bush at one timecampaign directors, etc., are a revolving door.’
Exactly. Thats the only reason Bob Shrum finds employment every four years.
