Senator's Number on Escort Service List
WASHINGTON (AP) - Sen. David Vitter, R-La., apologized Monday night for "a very serious sin in my past" after his telephone number appeared among those associated with an escort service operated by the so-called "D.C. Madam."
Vitter's spokesman, Joel Digrado, confirmed the statement in an e-mail sent to The Associated Press.
"This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible," Vitter said in the statement. "Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there - with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way."

What a dummy. Just when we were in a good place to take over Baby Fat Mary Landrieu’s Senate seat, then this idiot jeopardizes a safe GOP seat. When is he up for re-election? I hope not until 2010.
2010. He’s up then.
OK, he said “several years ago” he sought forgiveness.
He took office for Senate in January of 2005, which would have been 2.5 years ago.
So, is his “several” 2.5 (and he jumped in bed within days of showing up?), or did this happen on a business trip to Washington BEFORE he was a Senator?
I’m thinking it might well be that he had business in Washington and used the service at that time, NOT since he became a Senator (when he would have been more keenly aware of the problem of seeing a prostitute).
If Bayou voters like Edwin Edwards, then Vitter’s Senatorial discretions won’t matter much.
I wonder if Vitter used to hang out with Jimmy Swaggart out on Airline Highway?
He was elected a congressman in 1999. He was already in Washington when he was running for senator.
Just another politician making Louisiana proud. /sarc
He’s not up in 2008 and he earned good will from killing amnesty so I figure that will carry him over this confirmed affair previously noted as only rumor.
Yeah, it was stupid. He deserves the heat he’ll have to ride out on this and I have no sympathy for him. Seems fair enough punishment, at least, for what he did to his family.
Single or married.Whats the diff? Its still a sin accoding to The Bible.

Ready for rehab!
A REALLY slow leak.
From March, 2004:
On WSMB radio last Saturday, a caller who identified himself as Elwood asked Vitter about charges, made by a member of the Louisiana Republican State Central Committee in the Weekly that the then-State Representative, had had an affair with a known prosition in the French Quarter. Elwood continued, “Would you be willing to sign an affidavit that you have ever known, met or had relations with one Wendy Cortez.”
Vitter responded, “I think you know that that alligation is abosultely and completely untrue...I have said that on numerous occassions...I’ll say that in any forum...Unfortuanately, that’s just crass Louisiana politics, now that I am running for the Senate. I have made that clear that it is alll completely untrue...And, it’s obviously politically motivated.”
Nothing worse than cheating on your wife with a whore. What a scumbag loser.
This will ensure his election as governor of that state.
Oh Know. A jerk and a denier.
September 9th, 2002:
“On June 3, 2002, The Louisiana Weekly published allegations that Congressman David Vitter had engaged in an extramarital affair as a state representative with a known prostitute.
They were made by GOP operative Vincent Bruno. In what became a high stakes political battle between some of the most prominent members of the Louisiana Republican Party, Bruno charged that a prostitute, who stated her name to be Wendy Cortez, allegedly confessed to him to having a paid sexual relationship with the Congressman. Three separate and independent sources also confirmed to the Weekly that Cortez told them of the details of her alleged affair with Vitter.
However, despite written testimony from the sources, The Weekly could not find Cortez to receive her own confirmation of the allegations. This newspaper began a two-month search for the former stripper and escort. Investigators for The Weekly managed to find someone claiming to have knowledge of Wendy Cortez, but the results are at best mixed.
The individual in question, a madam named Nicole of a prominent New Orleans escort company, said that Cortez lived regularly in Atlanta, but would be in the Crescent City on the evening of Tuesday, August 17th. She said that she could arrange a meeting. (She also insisted that The Weekly would not use her full name or the name of her escort company.)
Originally, Nicole agreed that Ms. Cortez would speak to reporters from The Weekly on camera. After midnight, when the meeting was to occur, Weekly Investigators contacted Nicole. At that point, she had a woman with her that she alleged was the Wendy Cortez in question. However, she said that Cortez had decided not to testify.
What the woman claiming to be Cortez told Weekly investigators when asked if she would talk was, “I stand by my story I have nothing more to say on the matter.”
Supporters of Vitter continue to deny the charges. Jim St. Raymond, political consultant to David Vitter, has stood by his views at the time, “I know it’s not true. I don’t give it any credence,”
So has Vitter’s official spokesperson, Tonya Newman, who said Bruno’s motivation was revenge because Vitter defeated his friend Dave Treen in the First District Congressional election to replace Bob Livingston two years ago.
Bruno, who supplied the original documentation of his meetings with Cortez, along with specific testimony that she provided against the Congressman, continues to maintain that he only came forward with the prostitute’s name and personal information when pressed as a means to protect his integrity after attacks were leveled against him on statewide radio.
“All these rumors are obviously untrue. They are coming from his [Vitter’s] enemies, and they have not been successful politically, so they are going after him personally-and his family. I think it’s significant to know that these people have had a vendetta against Vitter since he was in the Legislature,” says Newman.
Rep. Vitter has refused to comment on the record. “

I wouldn’t need much more than one hand to count the politicians that are worthwhile in DC .The bulk of them , both sides of the aisle , are overambitious, self centered , greedy scumbags who use their office for personal gain , pleasure and power. I say it’s time for a total house cleaning in DC. It’s gone way over the top on many levels.
