“However, its just that I think too many so called conservatives are strangely silent when it comes to supporting the Presidents action in the GWOT and have become single issue supporters...”

Americans do not want to surrender.

Americans want to fight to win and GTFO.

We do not see that happening in the MSM.

and you my friend see the forest through the trees... I too am saddened by some of the lackluster performance by the Administration but I unlike many on this board do not submit to the emotion of the issue. As I remember it the liberals are the ones that attack from the emotion perspective and conservatives rely on fact and logic anyway I keep, as I can tell you appreciate, a wide open perspective on the big picture.

If the President thought Iraq was so important, he wouldn't have poked his thumb in the eye of conservatives on immigration, just prior to needing their support on Iraq.

Apparently Bush thought it preferable to provide Amnesty than to achieve victory.

This isn't an immigration thread, why bring it up?

Speaking only for myself, I would hope conservatives aren't so petty as to withdraw support for our Iraq effort just because they disagree with the president on some other issue. That is the childish behavior of liberals.

So that supports my theory that it’s the immigration issue that’s driving his voters’ displeasure.

I’m not concerned at this point on his immigration stance, it’s our troops he needs to support. I don’t believe one can support the troops but not their mission.

With all due respect, are Islam and democracy compatible? Any historical evidence for this? (I can show you plenty to the contrary!)

"If the people on this board treated this issue like they did the immigration issue then the President shouldn’t have any problem mustering the support he needs..."

If the President thought Iraq was so important, he wouldn't have poked his thumb in the eye of conservatives on immigration, just prior to needing their support on Iraq.

The President's poor behavior on immigration is NO excuse for anybody on this board who doesn't support our fight with Al Qaeda.

AP: Report to Say Iraqi
Government Gets an ‘F’

WASHINGTON — A progress report on Iraq will conclude that the U.S.-backed government in Baghdad has not met any of its targets for political, economic and other reform, speeding up the Bush administration’s reckoning on what to do next, a U.S. official said.

One likely result of the report will be a vastly accelerated debate among President Bush’s top aides on withdrawing troops and scaling back the U.S. presence in Iraq.

The “pivot point” for addressing the matter will no longer be Sept. 15, as initially envisioned, when a full report on Bush’s so-called “surge” plan is due, but instead will come this week when the interim mid-July assessment is released, the official said Monday.

“The facts are not in question,” the official told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because the draft is still under discussion. “The real question is how the White House proceeds with a post-surge strategy in light of the report.”

The report, required by law, is expected to be delivered to Capitol Hill by Thursday or Friday, as the Senate takes up a $649 billion defense policy bill and votes on a Democratic amendment ordering troop withdrawals to begin in 120 days.

I agree. Although Al Queada is not the only organization that is terrorist, Al Queada is certainly one of the terrorist organizations.

The President made no sense regarding illegal immigrants, but made a lot of sense regarding terrorism and I support the President regarding terrorism.

The surge is not political, economic or other reform. The Surge is military.

Who is the “unnamed official”?

I agree.

My point was directed to the sentence in the article where he thought his support for Bush on the WOT was causing his numbers to fall. I think it was his stance on illegal immigration, not his support for the WOT/Iraq, that has his constituents in a snit.
