Exclusive: Document 'Rental' By Illegals Vexes Authorities [BOHICA]

1200 WOAI news has learned that a fast growing racket among illegal immigrants threatens to derail any effort to include a 'tamper proof identification card' into any part of an immigration reform plan.

Officials tell 1200 WOAI news that for between $200 and $800, an illegal immigrant can easily rent the legal documents of a legal U.S. resident.

The illegal rents the Social Security card, U.S. Work Permit, and occasionally even a birth certificate from a U.S. hospital or state drivers license long enough to present them to an employer. If the employer checks them out, they come up legal because they are, in fact, legal.

Adelina Pruneda of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, who agreed to speak about the general problem of identity abuse among illegals, says it is a growing worry.

"The criminal organization sells a Social Security card along with a drivers license and a green car, all together, and they charge anywhere between $200 and $600 depending on the authenticity of the entire document."

Officials tell 1200 WOAI news that for the purposes of employment, the illegal simply continues to use the name on the rented documents, which is usually a Latin American name. The renter then moves on to another city or another neighborhood so there is seldom any conflict between the two identities.

One police officer familiar with the scam told 1200 WOAI news it is almost impossible for law enforcement to catch on unless the illegal commits another crime, like drunk driving, where fingerprints might be compared.

"If this guy lives a righteous life, and never has any reason to be fingerprinted, there is no way we can ever catch him," the officer said.

If a U.S. birth certificate is included in the rented documents, the illegal could obtain a U.S. passport, although it is impossible to tell whether that has occurred.

Pruneda says the employer would never have any reason to suspect fraud.

"It wasn't a fake Social Security number, it was a real Social Security number, it just didn't belong to that person," Pruneda says.

She says ICE and other agencies are doing what they can to explain to employers the intracies of document fraud.

"We are constantly working with all different companies to make sure they have an idea of what to look out for," she said.

This growing problem could cause serious complications for efforts to include a 'temper proof' i.d. card as part of immigration reform.

Don’t tell me they don’t know how to fix this. People pay SS and taxes. Irs or SS can’t figure out something strange is going on when they are receiving money from two different states on the same day? They don’t see anything strange about a 1 week old building houses are a 96 y/o collecting SS and working full time in a factory?

It seems that simple, doesn’t it? I was still a welfare worker when male anchor babies were given dad’s name and dad [illegal] was using the SS #.

They were getting away with it for months at a time, if they were caught at all! Small wonder there are comments about gubmint workers.

This is not very difficult to detect by the Social Security Administration. The Social Security Administration already catches this happening, but refuses to do anything about it.

The renter then moves on to another city or another neighborhood so there is seldom any conflict between the two identities.

It's absurd to think that many people are going to rent out documents and keep moving around for a few hundred dollars.

If employers do a decent job attempting to verify that the documents match the bearer, and the SSA reports duplicate usage of SSNs, this becomes very difficult to do on more than a very small scale.

This isn't the huge hurdle that they are making it out to be. They just appear to be trying to make the argument that since this won't work, having secure IDs isn't worth doing.

There will always be a few people that find a way around any system, but just because a system can't catch 100% of offenders doesn't mean it's not effective.

This widespread identity fraud means that a 'national security' identification card will be issued to every American soon, probably with our fingerprints or eye-scan on the card. It will be billed as the "only way" to stop the illegals' identity scams. I frankly believe that this is why Washington actually wants millions of illegals in our country, it creates an apparent 'necessity' for such a national ID card. Of course, a national ID card also gives the government more control over citizens, which is something that every government has been wont to do since Oooga, Booga, Umah and Duumass formed the very first human government. -

Anyway, we all know that a fence, a vigorously enforced fence, is the real answer to the illegal problem. But can we force those in Washington who seem to represent Mexico and South America more than US citizens to do this?

I live in Texas. Awhile back I drove to Florida. I couldn’t use my credit card. I called. They were seeing that it was being used in different states and it wasn’t my pattern and put a hold on it. When it comes to money, it can be tracked. The trackee just has to want to do it, though. I suspect they like the extra income. Who cares that another department is being dumped on.

A local Hispanic found there were 12 other people using his SS number in different parts of the country. Not rented, just stolen ID.

PHOTO Identification - IT WORKS.

At least is seems to when the local bar knows that the police are keeping an eye on them regarding serving underage patrons.

I don’t agree. I think either

1) employment enforcement or

2) Deployment of our military in large numbers at our borders and ports

is necessary to stop the invasion.

I talked to congressman Brian Bilbray’s staff about this. They are drafting a new “Enforcement First” bill with no amnesty for the House. They said that the Border Patrol people they talked to said thet they needed more BP agents, but even more importantly. they needed more internal agents (ICE, etc.). 20,000,000 illegals vs. 2,000 ICE agents is 10,000 to one.

A fence won’t do anything about the illegals already here unless they leave the country.

THE TRUTH--->>>

This is a racket for illegal immigrants and legal immigrants. The legal immigrant is being paid for renting out his ID. Yet another case where low life legal immigrants (probably poor, uneducated, not English speaking) enable the illegals and make some extra cash too

This scam has been going on for more than a generation. The fact it takes so long for it to surface shows that the government isn’t all that interested in finding a solution.

Combine some biometrics with a tamperproof card and then you avoid this problem.

Encode a retina scan check on the card, if a scan of the card holder doesn’t match the encoded scan on the card - deny entry.

It just ain’t that difficult. If an employer knowingly hires an illegal then he pays a $50,000 fine for each illegal. If an employee is caught with illegal documents then he goes to the pen for 5 years and is then deported. NO EXCEPTIONS, NO PROBATIONS, NO APPEALS.
