Latinos move to Greeley at high rate ( 30.5 percent ? )
greeleytribune ^ | July 8, 2007 | Vanessa Delgado

Most of northern Colorado has seen explosive growth in the past two decades.

But Greeley stands out in one particular way: Much of the growth has occurred in the Latino population.

While Loveland and Fort Collins’ populations are about 10 percent Latino, in Greeley it is 30 percent and climbing...

Many people say the biggest reason is jobs. Latinos are coming to the Greeley area because they can find work in agriculture, meatpacking, construction and service industries. And people within any minority group are more likely to move to a community where they feel more comfortable. Such is the case in Greeley.

“We have a pretty strong Latino heritage in Greeley,” said Becky Safarik, Greeley’s community development director. “There is also a strong network of Latino business.”

The numbers show a stark contrast in the Latino population growth in Greeley compared to other northern Colorado communities.

In 1980, Latinos represented 8,260 of the 53,006 people living in Greeley, or 15.5 percent of the population.

By 2000, the number had almost tripled, to 22,683 Latinos out of 76,930 residents of Greeley, or 29.4 percent. The Latino population grew by 174 percent in those two decades, while the city’s population as a whole grew by 45 percent.

Where isn’t that happening? That darn global warming has caused these warm weather people to even show up in Minnesota.

Can't think of a better reason. Lot of people try and keep a safe distance between them and work.

It is the jobs. I bet there are many Californians that moved from here to get away from this only to find their problem moved with them.

Wherever new construction is happening in a consistent predictable manner illegals will go. Wherever there are people who will employ them in large and predictable amounts they will go. Along with them will be the gang problem and/or the cultural ways that are so offensive or contradictory to our own. Just the facts.

Dry up the jobs everywhere for them and they will have no choice but to high tail it somewhere they can get work.

Horace Greeley: "Move west, young man."

George Bush: "Move 'al norte,' amigos."

Our family lived in the Greeley area for many years. Anywhere you find the company “Excel” you’re going to find large concentrations of illegals. Greeley can’t hold a candle to the Fort Morgan, CO area just east of Greeley.

Removing Job prospects are only a small part of the illegal immigration problem.

Government has to enforce the laws already on the books against Employers hiring illegals but also against illegals. Deport illegals deep into Mexico like Republican President Eisenhower did. Government is not enforcing the laws.

Build the Fence.

Governments at the state, federal and local level have to stop giving government benefits to illegals like housing, welfare, food, medical care, schooling etc. What they are doing is in many cases against the law.

Stop illegals at the border. Why can't Bush move the hundreds of thousands of U.S. troops , the armies that are guarding Europe, from Europe to the U.S border to guard the U.S. border instead of Europe? Europe is rich and they have nukes so why are U.S. taxpayers footing the bill for the defense of Europe?

Just in Germany there are hundreds of thousands of U.S. troops. Why is no one talking about this? The defense of Europe has to cost at least a few hundred billion per year yet no one is talking about it. Conservatives don't question anything the military does.

And liberals would rather have the U.S. army doing nothing there instead of on the U.S. border protecting the U.S. from the invasion of illegals from Mexico. and it is an invasion but the liberal media calls it people who are saving our economy. nothing could be further from the truth. illegals are hurting our eoconomy and turning the U.s. into a 3rd world socialist hell hole . That Amnesty bill would have greatly accelerated this process.

I think you mean Exel, which is one of the largest operators of warehouses in the world.

Greeley, Colorado, birthplace of Al-Qaeda.

According to "The Looming Tower," which traces the movement back to the Egyptian radical Qtub's disillusion with America during his time at Northern Colorado U in Greeley in the 50's.
