Metallica: Terrorist threat? (Hetfield Confused for Taliban on way to Live Earth)
Yahoo ^

Posted on 07/08/2007 8:50:52 PM PDT by mnehring

Metallica singer James Hetfield was investigated by UK airport officials who believed he was a terrorist this week, it has been claimed.

The star was barred entry to Luton airport on Thursday and questioned by staff who were concerned about his appearance.

Fears that Hetfield might be involved in terrorism were apparently founded on his "Taliban-like beard", according to The Times.

He was allowed to leave the airport after a brief interrogation, when he persuaded officials that he was a rock star.

Metallica play Live Earth at Wembley Stadium in London tomorrow, before headlining the venue for their own show on Sunday evening.

The thing I couldn’t stand the most about it was Lars sounded terrible on the drums. They were extremely tinny sounding like he didn’t use a drum shield when recording. It was almost amateurish.

“Cat Stevens ... supported the fatwa against Salman Rushdie”

No. He was asked after a public lecture what the penalty for blasphemy was under Islamic law. He never claimed Rushdie had blasphemed Islam.

I take it that if a Christian or Jew were asked a similar question and they quoted Leviticus 24:16, you wouldn’t have your knickers in quite the same knot.

I am a big Metallica fan, even after learning they played at Live Earth,...

I am not anymore. Besides, it was Dave Mustaine that made Metallica and Megadeth is so much better.

The best thing about St. Anger was the “Some Kind of Monster” documentary. I think all the scenes of the useless, psychobabbling Phil Towle getting slapped and beat down by all and sundry must have been left on the cutting room floor. They all gave him credit for helping them, but I never could figure out how. Sitting around all day and spouting platitudes for $40,000 per month is truly helpful?

I think Metallica was a last minute addition to the line up as they played Wembley yesterday or today. So they were in town. Why not play.

When Hetfield told Towlie that his services were no longer needed and Towlie repeatedly objected to ending the sessions I wanted Hetfield to just yell, LOOK Fucker, YOU’RE FIRED!

None of them would ever be mistaken for Taliban. Takes more than whiskers.

At least Lars busted Dr. Phil on the emotional manipulation/blackmail he started trying to pull on James. I thought that guy was unethical, or he became unethical. He got too needy and dependent on his patients. The band had enough emotional and other problems, and their therapist seemed to add himself to the list.

It really appeared he was trying to and believing he could become the 5th member of Metallica. He sold his house, bought a new one in SF and moved his wife and family out there along with other things that really annoyed Metallica. Either Lars or James pretty much told him he was trying to become the 5th member and a permanent part of the band and that wasn’t happening.

...Megadeth is so much better.

Megadeth's new album is good. I saw them a few weeks ago open up for Black Sabb- er "Heaven and Hell" - and they really rocked. The Black Sabbath stuff with Dio was well done as well.

I love this album. I played it over and over to the exclusion of everything else. Still keep going back to it.
