July 8, 2007 -- Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov says that U.S. plans to set up a missile-defense system in Central Europe amount to building a "new Berlin Wall."
In comments aired on the Rossiya television channel, Ivanov said placing rockets in Poland and a radar station in the Czech Republic "presents an obvious threat to Russia."
Russia has continually voiced its opposition to the U.S. missile defense system that Washington says is meant to offer protection against attacks from Iran and North Korea.
Washington's plans for the missile shield have led to a further deterioration of already unsteady relations between Russia and the United States in recent months.
Russia has proposed creating a joint missile-defense system with United States and NATO participation as an alternative to Washington's current plan, but U.S. officials have treated the proposal cautiously.
Russia is a mad dog threatening to destroy ex-Soviet nations which dare to believe they are really free to be friends with the USA. Russia doesn't want anyone to be able to shoot down the missiles they are supplying to their communist and jihadist allies around the world, from Hugo Chavez to the ayatollahs.
Interesting how much a purely defensive shield rattles him. Makes you wonder what he has planned.

Notice how he wants the missile shield to be in Azerbiajan, or Turkey , or Iraq... anywhere but in Poland. Any threat to his ability to exterminate all Poles really bothers the neo-Soviet Fuhrer.
What a freaking dumb-ass! The US should state that all Eastern Europeans that want to sneak into Russia, will be made available to them, chauffeur driven limousines.
Have you read or heard what the reason for Putin’s requested face to face with President Bush? I have not seen or read anything except how the fishing was during the face to face.

Yours was meant to keep your enslaved people prisoners in an abysmal failure of of a social and economic experiment.Ours is meant to protect the civilized nations of Europe launched from missiles from God-knows-where.

The Berlin Wall was an effort to retain control over their own citizens so that they could not escape the Soviet oppression.
Missile defense is an effort to block Russian attacks so that citizens of many sovereign European nations can retain their freedom.
I see no similarities.

Been there, done that.
However, it would be effective against a far more likely “Crimson Tide” blackmail terrorist senario, or attacks by less sophisticated players, such as Iran.
