Santa Ana urged to declare sanctuary status
Orange County Register ^ | July 6, 2007 | Jennifer Delson

Posted on 07/07/2007 7:20:26 AM PDT by LNewman

Latino rights activists want to shield families from federal sweeps. But some council members doubt it would accomplish much.

...

On June 22, 175 people were arrested in Orange County on immigration violations during a five-day campaign, the largest single enforcement for immigration fugitives in Orange County...

"The arrests make you think that Santa Ana is more vulnerable than other communities and it may be a good idea to make it a sanctuary city where immigrants do not have to be concerned about increased enforcement activity," said Amin David, who heads Los Amigos of Orange County, a civic group...

A sanctuary city designation would discourage cooperation between federal immigration authorities and local police. But federal authorities say that although they often work with local police, they do not need local authorization to make immigration arrests. Therefore, the sanctuary designation would mostly be symbolic...

Other cities, including Bell Gardens, Huntington Park, San Francisco, Coachella and El Centro, have adopted the designation, said Hector Alvarado, a Maywood activist...

Anaheim attorney Juan Barba organized a meeting for family members of deported immigrants, community leaders and attorneys last month.

U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement "is terrorizing the community. People are really scared because they could leave their homes and never see their families again," he said.

...

Luis Guevara, a community activist in San Juan Capistrano, followed government vans to witness the raids and agreed that immigration agents "are scaring people and they are pulling families apart."

ICE regional field office director Jim Hayes said his priority remained arresting criminals but "as a law enforcement agency, when we find people who are in violation of the law, we are expected to uphold our obligation."

Santa Ana should begin using the peso as their currency also.

How about this:

“Go back to Mexico and bring your stupid criminal parents with you.”

We should build a fence around Santa Ana, especially all the court buildings and lawyer’s offices.

what we should do is when a city declares itself a sactuary city is stop all federal funds going to the city and people living in the city- so no more road money, school money, social security, etc.... if they want to ignore the law of the land than let them run their city with no help from the federal government.

Ya know I just moved my business. Money is really tight now. It cost me a lot more than I expected to move. Can someone point me to a sanctuary city where like..... bank robbing is not prosecuted?

I feel like stickin’ a gun in someones face and lightening the coffers a few thousand....

Santa Ana is part of Mexico already.

Perhaps they could declare themselves a sanctuary city for Americans...

If illegal aliens and their progeny were deported from Orange County, the Santa Ana City Council wouldn’t have a quorum

Viva Mexico means to these kids that they will remain ignorant and miserable and pliable to the merchants of misery porn the American Left.

If we do not change this insanity we are all finished as America.

The first thing that needs to be changed is not boarder security or domestic apprehension or the prosecution of employer but rather the 14th Amendment.

Returning the 14th Amendment to its original intent (washing away the legacy of FDR), is the cornerstone to correcting the problem. Once anchor babies lose their political status, the rest is easy.

Good idea, but I bet we see the reverse first. The Feds will stop all money UNLESS you're a sancturay city.
