This weekend, rock stars will jet around the world, cars and buses will clog traffic, and elaborate sound stages will be set up to burn massive amounts of fuel to send the message to fans at home that they had better conserve their energy or face the allegedly dire threat of global warming.
The Live Earth concerts, which start this Saturday, July 7, are also one last chance for Baby Boomers to relive the "flower power" activism of the '60s. In a recent interview in Rolling Stone, former Vice President Al Gore invoked music icon Bob Dylan to promote the importance of these concerts. Citing Dylan's '60 anthem "The Times They Are A-Changin'". Gore rambled: "What's the old Bob Dylan line? 'Come senators, congressmen, please heed the call/Rattle your windows' - what's the rest of it? - 'for the times they are a-changin'."
But there's just one problem with invoking Dylan to hype the global warming scare. And that is that Dylan himself has expressed skepticism -- to the same magazine -- at the notion that global warming is a catastrophe. When he was asked by Rolling Stone founder and publisher Jann Wenner in the magazine's 40th anniversary issue if he worried about global warming, Dylan replied with an unexpected rejoinder. He asked Wenner, "Where's the global warming? It's freezing here." Wenner, who has blanketed Rolling Stone and his other magazine Men's Journal with doom-and gloom climate change stories (that often bash my organization, the Competitive Enterprise Institute), quickly moved on to other topics after he received his comeuppance.
Yet Dylan's latest statement may signal that in the global warming debate, the times are changing. Even independent-minded celebrities are now questioning the establishment media orthodoxy that the debate over global warming and its effects are all but over.

I don’t know anything about Joplin either, didn’t she sing “Oh, Lord Won’t you buy me a Mercedez Benz.”??
Never heard of Kerouac either. I guess I’ll have to do my own reading on Bob Dylan. I’ll go to the library and get a biography book.
Lol, and I used to think Murphy’s Law was a simple, “if anything can go wrong - it will go wrong”. There are many more!

I love your, “Anything is possible if you don’t know what you are talking about”! Some days I feel like that, snicker.
.
LOL!
If you start “LOLing” me tonight I am going to find some crazy gif to post!!
Please don’t tempt me.
Eric: That’s too funny. Great headline and pic. LOL
By the way guys, I heard a story which I haven’t verified yet. Supposedly, people walked out at one venue — Johnnesburg I believe — because the beer cost $50 a bottle. So much for saving the environment. People would rather have cheap beer. LOL
Hahahahahaha!!! ...Those are pretty expressive, I have to say! ...grin
They deserve a LOL!!
Like I said, our stupid neighbors will believe the MSM propaganda and feel good story. Why not? Drive a hybrid? OK, it saves me money on gas I can deal with that.
They haven’t seen the bill yet from the 5 star restaurant including drinks, appetizers, main course, dessert and coffee for them and their 3 billion closest friends that Pierre the prancing waiter is going to put on the table.
Do you want to tell them it’s a harmless whale shark, or shall I?
That kayak was tasty!
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Did Rush see this one too? The man is omnipotent!
.
Yup!
I’ve been around a lot of allegedly domesticated farm animals, horses, dogs
None I consider really “harmless”
A small sandshark you grab by the tail in the Florida surf can take of a finger in a heartbeat
The kick of a horse or the horn of a Brahma steer can ruin your whole day - or all of them
I swam across the Intercoastal Waterway one hot summer day and walked up the the bridge and a large crowd was gathered taking photos of a huge hammerhead shark hanging that was not out of a fantasy movie
Barracuda were plentiful in Hillsboro Inlet and I recall outwaiting a large ‘cuda that was fascinated by the shiny stainless watch I was dumb enough to wear that day
And I recall seeing large alligators crawling up on the beach after a hurricane the same day I saw them in out flooded pastures well inland
It’s still scary, if you will, to think that algore and crew have the following of devotees that they have at all, including musicians who ‘care’ so deeply and support him regardless and organized this ‘urgent’ event. And many of them are eligible to vote. Ugh. I tuned in to parts of it out of a morbid curiosity and oddly enough (sarcasm - a given). did not see algore renounce his private jet or gas guzzling SUV or any of his tobacco money... Hmmm...
Interesting memories devolve.
