U.S. appeals court orders dismissal of domestic spying suit

CINCINNATI: A U.S. appeals court on Friday ordered the dismissal of a lawsuit challenging President George W. Bush's domestic spying program, saying the plaintiffs had no standing to sue.

The 2-1 ruling by the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel was not on the legality of the surveillance program, but it vacated a 2006 order by a lower court in Detroit. That court had found the post-911 warrantless surveillance aimed at uncovering terrorist activity to be unconstitutional, violating rights to privacy and free speech and the separation of powers.

The American Civil Liberties Union led the lawsuit on behalf of other groups including lawyers, journalists and scholars it says have been handicapped in doing their jobs by the government monitoring.

However, Judge Julia Smith Gibbons, one of the appeals court's Republican appointees, said the plaintiffs failed to show they were subject to the surveillance and therefore do not have standing for their claims.

I had a guy once saying “George Bush spies on citizens!!”

I said, “Who? Name one person. Who has he spied on?”

Stupid moonbat is telling me that George Bush sits in his bedroom at night spying on “American citizens”

So....Bush is sitting there with special CIA headphones on and a little notepad jotting down all the details of my conversation with my Aunt Clara and the Sunday dinner we are having next week.

Yep. I can see the head of the free world doing that....not.

Stupid moonbats.

Textbook liberal media bias 101.

Exactly. Besides you notice that the article does not start by saying that it was a victory for President Bush ( and of course a victory for America) because if it was the other way the first few words of the article will be " in a crushing defeat for the Bush administration....".

I said it many times before, liberals suffer from the "Arabism decease" which is an extreme state of delusions where one sees himself always victorious over his enemy and never admits his state of utter defeat and always denies that his enemy has crushed him.

You got that right. When this first all came up, I, too though how boring my phone conversations have to be. Unless you are a member of my family, you really wouldn’t care what my sister and my cousins and I talk about on the phone. You do not care whose baby was born six months after the wedding, you do not care that my cousin’s new hair salon dyed her hair burgundy instead of auburn, you do not care who has become a religious fanatic, you do not care who wasn’t invited to the 50th anniversary party, you do not care how John is recovering from his heart attack, you do not care about the excellent dish I prepared by substituting orange roughy for cod in my recipe, you do not care about Sylvia’s new hot tub, blah, blah, blah. Fact of the matter is, if you are not a terrorist, or talking to overseas terrorists on the phone, no one is listening to your conversations. No one.

Most times, not even the person being called is actually listening, LOL.

No, Judge Anna Diggs Taylor was a Carter appointee. We are still paying for the mistake of electing him, 27 years after he was thrown out of office.

If the political interests were reversed (ie: Dem in the White House) the story would be “US Appeals Court Hands White House Major Victory, Upholds Spying on Terrorists”
