Global cooling at hand?

In his latest missive, "Moving Beyond Kyoto," in the Sunday New York Times, Al Gore promoted his coming Live Earth concert with an assault on reason: Mankind's carbon-dioxide emissions "have literally changed the heat balance between Earth and the Sun." In his universe, the earth (mean surface temperature, 59 F) warms the sun (9,953 F).

But it's nice to see Mr. Gore acknowledge the research of geologists and solar scientists into the sun's role in heating the planet. Many of these experts have concluded that instead of tilting at warming windmills, mankind should prepare for the next Big Chill.

R. Timothy Patterson, director of the Ottawa-Carleton Geoscience Center in Canada, is one of many reputable scientists who have done what Mr. Gore suggests: moved beyond the Kyoto Protocol. Writing in Toronto's National Post, he noted scientists "are consistently finding excellent correlations between the regular fluctuations in the brightness of the sun and earthly climate." Conversely, CO2 variations show little or no correlation with the earth's climate, no matter what time scale is used.

The geologic record confirms the variability of solar output affects the earth's climate, often dramatically. About 6,000 years ago, it was 6 C warmer than today because solar radiance was high. As the world came out of the last Ice Age, temperatures rose 6 C in a decade, 100 times faster than the last 100 years. But about 450 million years ago, when atmospheric CO2 levels were more than 10 times greater than today, the earth experienced "the absolute coldest period in the last half-billion years," Mr. Patterson wrote.

Solar scientists predict the sun will begin its weakest solar cycle of the past two centuries in 2020, leading to an unusually cool climate on earth and perhaps another Little Ice Age. Time will tell whether that occurs, but it would be in keeping with another inconvenient truth for Mr. Gore: The earth has never seen climate stability and never will. That's why humanity would be better off if it continued to refine its climatological knowledge while crafting adaptive strategies for the inevitable change.

They go where there is some serious global warming.

Cooling is on the way. This morning it is 50 even, which is the first time in a week it has been below 54 at 6 AM. It rained just enough to please the plantlife, which is highly pleased this summer. It’s a jungle in the subarctic and the path needs to be trimmed twice a day. Even the moose stick to the paths the wild plant growth being too much even for them.

Shoot! Just in time for my retirement.

Everytime he opens his piehole he tops himself on the stupid scale.

Look up “Stuck on Stupid” in Webster’s and his picture is right there.

...The geologic record confirms the variability of solar output affects the earth's climate...

Gee... you mean like the sun gets hotter and then the earth heats up??? Is there a consensus of scientists that hold this to be true??? Could it be that the brilliant scientist Al Gore overlooked this fact???

This is happening faster than people think. I’m quite sure that there will be unmistakable evidence of this phenomenon within 6 months.

The Global Warming crowd will continue to insist that global warming is a fact even if iceburgs were to threaten Milwaukee. Actually there was a book about that (Fallen Angels by Niven/Pournelle).

Al Gore knows about as much about Global Warming as Paris Hilton knows about Mother Theresa.

Its all a scam and Al is a part of it.

It’s 76 right now here in central Texas. In July!

Sounds like global cooling has already arrived.
