PARIS, July 4, 2007 (AFP) - The French government on Wednesday approved a new immigration bill intended to tighten the rules under which foreigners can join family-members in France.
The bill, which will go before parliament in September, stipulates that would-be immigrants pass a test on the French language and "values" carried out in their country of origin.
An immigrant who wishes to bring to France a wife or children will have to show he has the means to look after them properly, and parents will sign a contract with the state undertaking to integrate children into society.
Drawn up by Immigration Minister Brice Hortefeux, it is France's third immigration bill in four years.
President Nicolas Sarkozy, who put through two previous laws as interior minister, has said he wants to control immigration in order to promote integration.
The bill also brings France into line with European law by giving asylum-seekers the right to stay in France when they appeal against a negative ruling.
Looks like the French aren’t as nutty as we accused them of being. They appear to be one up on us and Britain in separating their terrorist out, and we’re still trying to make nicey nice with them. Every person in the US is threatened with prosecution for hate speech except the very one’s who are advocating lobing off our heads among other things.
France gets something right!
France has gotten quite a bit right, lately, with the election of Sarkozy. I am back to buying brie and champagne. :D
They are less nutty about immigration than our President.
A whole lot less!!
Finally a frog that realized that his country is about to be destoyed by muzzies and is willing to do something about it, albeit a little late.
I dont know. Might be naive. It sounds a bit like the unenforceable/unconfirmable “sign a pledge you are no longer a gang member” in order to give legal status to illegal alien gangbangers on US soil, per the Bush-Kennedy Immigration Piece of Crap right here in our own country. I think their legislation should be even stronger.
No, no. Didn't you read Melanie Phillips' column today? Mr. Brown has dictated that words such as terrorists, Islam, and Muslim cannot be used about the current "unpleasantness." The key word now is "communities."
You misread my post, I’m talking about France .
